Both British & World Supersport championships have been great this year. Awesome job by Seeley today but I was also gutted for Ben Wilson who has been equally as good as him this year. No shootout and yet the title was won by just a single point.
BSB races were very exciting and if anyone was to benefit from the ridiculous shootout system them I'm glad it was Tommy Hill (especially after last year). Brilliant riding by Hopper as well, he came to BSB to rebuild his career and I reckon he has successfully done that. He will either be back in MotoGP or WSBK next year so he has lots of positives to take away from his year in our little domestic championship. Got to feel a tad sorry for Shakey though who under the 'real' scoring system won the title by 6 points from Hill. The right 3 guys ended in the top 3 places but some might argue not necessarily in the correct order?
Just 1 WSBK meeting left and 3 GP's. Where the hell has this year gone?
]Dovi to partner Crutchlow at Tech 3 Yamaha next year.
Good spot, and only a one year deal .... maybe Crutchlow does stand a chance!
Working today, so looking forward to watching the 'Showdown finale' of BSB when I get in - I wanted hopkins or hill to win (or shakey), so I'll be happy either way!
Feel a bit bad that I didn't really watch much WSS, but it's nice that a welsh guy has won it, hopefully he'll continue to do well in the bigger classes.
I am now also the happy owner of Fireblade I linked to a few posts ago. It's a real shame Winter's coming!
Looks like his team are planning to run either privateer Ducati's or Aprilia's in WSBK next year so us Welsh bike racing fans have finally got something we can get excited about.
Happy to see Checa get his crown as well, he's a class rider and one of the most likeable guys in racing.
GP was alright, loved Sic's pass on Dovi but it was Moto2 that again provided the best racing of the weekend IMO. A very exciting race with a well deserved win for the on form Iannone. Shame he had such a shocking start to the season as he really should have been a title contender. I've enjoyed that category more than anything this year. Just 1 point now between Bradl & Marquez, can't wait for the last 3 races. I would love to see the MotoGP class evolve into a bigger 1000cc version of that category. Moto2 has proven that having identical engines and no electronic gadgetry keeps the costs down while providing the closest racing. Maybe the new CRT bikes will be a step towards that?
I have updated my fantasy team FWIW but in reality reckon I've got 3rd place pretty much bagged. Unless of course we have a Freeola shootout where we all get our points leveled for the last few races! :P
Update on Rossi's 'secret' Ducati test at Jerez yesterday.
With BSB, the riders have been so close at the top all year, that the showdown hasn't really made a difference - aside from the fact that Rutter would still be in with a chance without it (I like Kiyo, but if he wins this year, he doesn't really deserve it - which is guess is why you dislike it so much!).
The transfer window is open at the moment - you've not dropped too far behind, there's still time to catch up!
Yeah saw the Bradley Smith thing, good news for him and well deserved as he's gone well this year in Moto2. Also I think moving up with a team he will have already been with for 2 years will help him a lot. Not sure about Crutchlow either, if Edwards replacement (looking most likely to be Dovi or Laverty) sign a 2 year deal then I would presume he will be moving from an M1 to a P45! Do hope not though, think he has done OK so far.
Regarding Ducati I reckon that is what they have needed all along. What do they say, you can't polish a t**d and that is pretty much what Rossi,Burgess & Briggs have been trying to do all year. Masao Furusawa stated that he strongly believed that the carbon frame was the root of Ducati's problems at the end of last year. There's a good article on the state of Ducati here which is very coffee break friendly (that's when I read it!).
Yeah the racing in BSB has been good but I hate the shootout thing even more than I did last year. I just think it treats racing fans like X Factor viewers. Moto2 has been the best series this year IMO but I have really enjoyed watching Seeley and Wilson duffing each other up in BSS as well.
I lost races when Baz got canned and now Biaggi is injured as well so I would imagine my MCN fantasy team is currently looking very sorry for itself, I haven't dared check TBH!
Let's hope it does - Aside from leasing a Honda or Yam I don't see what else they'll be able to the Desmo if the chassis change doesn't help!
Did you see Bradley Smith has signed a 3 year deal with Tech 3, with him moving to GPs after one more year in moto2 (which is still the best 'gp' series) - great news for him, bad news for Crutchlow perhaps? I can't see Dovi (who is meant to be the prefered choice to replace Colin Edwards) signing only a one year contract.
BSB has been brilliant this year - I know you don't really like the showdown format, but it's producing some good racing!
In other news, I should be buying myself something a little like this over the winter. I can't wait!
