I love to see Biaggi indicate to go round (read 'in to') someone
Yeah, never really had him down as the mirror, signal, manouvre kind of bloke!
You'd think not, but there are things you just can't prevent - like Simoncelli's crash - you would never have expected his bike to veer over to right in that situation. It's awful for him though regardless.
Totally agree, even with today's safety standards in place freak accidents can always happen. Simoncelli's fatal crash was exactly that in my view, could not possibly have been foreseen or avoided. There are some who feel that both Lascorz & Katoh's accidents possibly could have been prevented with better circuit safety so that is something I am hoping to see addressed in the future.
Do they? I really need to pay more attention! I'm sure wherever he ends up he'll do better than this year (even on a 'junior' desmo).
Nothing official but this news has been reported on various sites , Eurosport commentators mentioned it as well. Apparently this document is due to expire at the end of this month, perhaps it just prevented him signing for any rival WSB outfit as by all accounts it does look like he can stay in MotoGP should the chance arise? Either that he went to sign using his Yamaha factory pen and it broke!
**Update** from French site gp-inside.com, translated into pigeon English courtesy of Google!
"Ben Spies will ride in MotoGp next year, it will drive a third Pramac Ducati colors and after the filter Bologna, it will probably be a motorcycle factory that will drive 100% American. We understand why Spies has not honored its pre-contract with BMW Italia WSBK.
Ben Spies could be a very good signing for the Italian factory as capable of results. The official announcement is expected to take place between 11 and 15 September "
With Iannone (today at Mugello read here) which has a pre-contract with Borgo Panigale, it seems that the stools of four GP13 are now occupied.''
I really hope Rea gets a proper chance in GP
Me too, he's been really loyal to Honda throughout his career and deserves a chance IMO. I think the fact old sparring partner Mr. Crutchlow has done so well this year has helped his chances as they were very closely matched in WSB (remember Silverstone 2010?). Story I have just posted above is surely really good news for Rea as his 2 main rivals for the Gresini ride are going to head up the Ducati Jr squad.
Thought that was the case with the pretend headlight things, maybe the next phase will see the introduction of fake indicators & tax disc holders!

Re. Joan Lascorz, I did read his interview, very sad. He seemed to suggest that really it shouldn't be possible to hit a wall at speed on a modern purpose built racing circuit.

Reports seem to suggest that although Ben Spies has apparently signed a letter of intent to race for BMW in WSB

I really hope Rea gets a proper chance in GP - I think HRC want him there, but want him in WSB too. Fingers crossed he doesn't give them a choice by finishing on the podium in all the races he get to play on the gp bike!
Re. Joan Lascorz, I did read his interview, very sad. He seemed to suggest that really it shouldn't be possible to hit a wall at speed on a modern purpose built racing circuit. Reading it reminded me of comments Rossi made in his autobiography regarding Daijiro Katoh's fatal crash at Suzuka in 2003, along with a few other riders he had earlier raised strong concerns over the lack of run off area at certain parts of that track and in his view Katoh should never have been able to hit that wall with such force. To read comments from guys whose opinions should be held in very high regard seeming to suggest that both of these accidents could possibly have been avoided is not good, hopefully lessons will be now be learned.
Reports seem to suggest that although Ben Spies has apparently signed a letter of intent to race for BMW in WSB he may not be leaving MotoGP after all?, (Gresini or a 2nd LCR) Honda and Ducati's junior team are thought to be possible options. If Jonny Rea wants a chance of the last Honda GP machine for next year then he really needs to use his golden opportunity to impress. Personally, I think Honda should be worried that Spies might bring his awful luck to their team and sign Rea anyway!

Finding out that Pedrosa can actually race when he needs to was the first pleasant surprise of today, looks like we still have a real fight on for the championship.
I knew the result, but it was still a good watch - seems Pedrosa's 'manned up' a bit! Brilliant for Cal to get on the podium too!
Jonny Rea is being drafted in by HRC to test Stoners bike...
Think he did alright really - to be given the chance to 'cover' for Stoner for the next few races too is a great chance for him. I think HRC really do rate him, especially after his suzuka win too - I'm sure if they had more bikes he'd already be in GP.
Not the most lucky of wsb weekends for him though!
Massive mistake by Biaggi today, he hit the wrong BMW!!!
It was almost like the director knew it would happen as they cut to biaggis onboard camera just before - it looked well nasty and took a while for haslam to get up - it's never a good sign seeing a rider face down on the track, though biaggi didn't even look at his bike just went straight over to haslam which was good to see.
Good news for Sykes too - yeah everyone has to have headlights next year. It's meant to make you believe you can buy the bike they're racing.
Did you see Joan Lascorz has given his first interview after his accident? I really don't know how you'd adjust.
The news that Jonny Rea is being drafted in by HRC to test Stoners bike tomorrow was the second. Apparently if all goes well and Stoner does not return he could race it at Misano. With the Gresini ride still up for grabs this should be a great chance to get himself in the running for that.
Massive mistake by Biaggi today, he hit the wrong BMW!!! Seriously though, that was a very nasty accident, glad to hear Haslam is OK (ish). Another great weekend for Tom Sykes, just read that he's been rewarded with a thoroughly deserved contract extension. Those stick on headlights do look crap on that Kawasaki though, think all bikes are supposed to have them on from next year.
Did you read about some scumbag robbing a guys bike as he lay dying on the side of the road?, unbelievable.
''...I was able to adapt quickly to the Yamaha and I hope to do it with the Ducati."
Perhaps the most optimistic thing I have read this year but if he honestly thinks he can tame Preziosi's beast then the best of luck to him.
All confirmed now. I think you're right about the optimism, I still can't believe people are wanting to ride that bike. I hope he does well, he'll be an absolute hero in italy if he does.
Seems that Stoner has decided his foot needs fixing properly and is out of Brno as well - no word on how long for though.
2 bikes down for the weekend already, maybe Rossi can manage his best dry race finish this weekend then!
I wish they would bin off that rubbish track at Indy...
...Only few years til the track is done in Wales mate!
Ha ha, somehow I can't see Dorna binning off the iconic but sadly useless Indy track for a soggy weekend at Ebbw Vale!
With Spies, I wonder whether it's Lin Jarvis, or someone outside of the racing team?
I suspect that it probably is Lin Jarvis TBH, if so great way to boost Spies confidence!
I thought the black flag was pretty funny - crash helmet or not, you probably shouldn't be punching other riders!
Luthi got away with punching Marquez in Qatar, although I rather suspect race officials probably thought he totally deserved it!
Did you see, Haslam is rumoured to have signed with Ten Kate?
Maybe he's been reading this thread?!! Although he has not had the best of seasons Haslam is still a world class rider IMO, I just hope Honda give that team a bit more support next year. If Rea stays that will be a very strong line up.
Looks like Dovi- Ducati deal is pretty much done and dusted:
