The X-box is an interesting console. It will be the most powerful in the world when released and it should be good. But will it?

Recently some of the signs have not been good, increased interest in the GC which goes on sale 3 days before the X-box in the states. That could well lose the X-box some customers.

But the X-box does have a few tricks up its sleeve, DOA3 being X-box exclusive is one of them. Also Sega are meant to be finishing off the Shenmue series on X-box only. With sequels to some of the DCs greatest games at the moment appearing to be X-box exclusives then it should have quite a few good gams.

But the question is will you get one?

I know that I would like an X-box and I am convinced that it will be a good platform but it looks to me like GC will be the format I favour when it comes around to release time.

I would like to know who of you will get an X-box, who will not and who possibly will get one if finances stretch taht far.

So?

What it means by develloper friendly is that once the Game has been made on a PC (and remember, more or less ALL games are made using a PC), they are incredibly easy to convert.

This was so of the Dreamcast, and the same goes for the Xbox and Gamecube.
Sony made theirs over complicated meaning that devellopers have to spend more time getting over programming difficulties rather than making the game better.

That's why so many PS2 games either look rushed or get heavily delayed.

They're so friendly in fact, that small groups are hoping to get a dev kit in order to start making their own games. I've considered it with a few friends, but then realised that all but two of them are dimwits. Also, there's a shortage of them at the mo.

It's because the PS2 is so difficult to develop for that there is this problem for developers in the first place.

One thing is for certain after this November the world of gaming will change forever. Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony all have something to offer :-) which has to be good news.

The Xbox will be released in the states for $300 + TAX and will be the worlds most powerful console. It will have a load of games available for it, although most will be PC ports this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The Xbox will have online capabilities as standard and has a number of peripherals such as its headset (Microphone + Earphones) which could change the face of gaming if used to their full potential. From what I've read Microsoft have delivered an awesome machine with some great new features such as the ability to save music from your audio CDs and put them onto its hard drive for playback during games.

What’s interested me is how many people in the PC community are supporting this machine even the programmers who spend their own time making emulators for the PC have converted them for the Xbox.

The Xbox will no doubt do well on the back of this, after all its cheaper than a similarly speced PC and it will run all PC software (As soon as the enthusiasts fix it to do so!)...which is great stuff since all I have is a slow 200Mhz Pentium... the Xbox will be a cheap home PC with a great spec.

An interesting development is that all the enthusiasts who love open source will no doubt have Linux running on the Xbox on the day of its release (If they haven’t already done so). Meaning the Xbox may actually help Linux establish itself more if Microsoft don’t provide a Windows environment for the Xbox soon after its release.

As for the GameCube well that will retail in the US at $200+TAX according to the latest info. It seems like it will have a load of great titles too although admittedly I’m now worried at its price point... a GameCube for only $150 would be great and could face Microsoft’s Xbox head on.
However at $200 the GameCubes games will have to be very special in order to win over Americans, particularly as the Xbox has an enormous advertising campaign that has already started in the US. I wish Nintendo luck in staying alive, and would advise them to price the GameCube at $150+TAX or if they have to price it at $200+TAX then they should bundle a game with it for free. Hopefully Nintendo’s GameCube modem add on will be cheap!

As for Sony well those lucky Americans aren’t only going to get a new hard drive and modem add on for the Playstation2s they’re also getting a new Playstation2, a Playstation2 with a built in harddrive and modem. This is proof perhaps that Sony take the threat of Microsoft’s Xbox seriously they’ve even done a deal with AOL to get those American users online.
On another note enthusiasts have already got Linux running on the Playstation2 hopefully with a standard harddrive and modem add on Sony may someday release their own Linux based OS and give Microsoft a roasting by creating an alternative to the PC.

As for what machine I’ll buy well that not only depends on my cash flow but on what each company can offer us in March next year when these machines reach the UK.
The new Playstation2 looks nice, although if the PC geniuses out their get Windows or Linux running on the Xbox I may have to opt for the Xbox after all it’ll be cheaper than a similarly speced PC…and my 200Mhz PC is now showing its age a bit !

XBOX IS GREAT

Look... it WILL sell to casual gamers. Ms has a $500million marketting buget alone. Which means this.

Before release the xbox will have ads everywhere. In these ads, MS will show off the LARGE NUMBERS of top quality exclusive games (DOA2, Munches Odysey, Project Gotham, Jet Set Future, etc etc). Theyt will also show a large number of converted PS2 games.

To say xbox will not sell is absurd... all this means is that you are not aware of the number of great AAA games coming out on it... mainly because marketting has not started. But once it does then expect a large following to emerge.

And to hate the console coz bill made it is bias, stupid, and the sign of a small brain.

I'm going to have a go on one first, then decide for sure whether it's X-Box or PS2.

At the moment though X-Box is just edging it, but a Final Fantasy title or a TOCA game would really push it WAY out into the lead.

The Xbox can blow the PS2 away in terms of graphics hardware, don't be so sure it just wont. :D

The Xbox is a very powerful piece of kit but it's not fantastically more powerful than the PS2. There's fractions between all the consoles. The problem with the Xbox is the games. They just don't look good. At least with Nintendo we are (allegedly) assured quality, but with the Xbox it seems we aren't even assured that.

Add to this the dodgy framerates, the higher possbillity of it crashing and I just don't want to risk it. £300 is a lot for something that may turn out to be useless.
