Recently some of the signs have not been good, increased interest in the GC which goes on sale 3 days before the X-box in the states. That could well lose the X-box some customers.
But the X-box does have a few tricks up its sleeve, DOA3 being X-box exclusive is one of them. Also Sega are meant to be finishing off the Shenmue series on X-box only. With sequels to some of the DCs greatest games at the moment appearing to be X-box exclusives then it should have quite a few good gams.
But the question is will you get one?
I know that I would like an X-box and I am convinced that it will be a good platform but it looks to me like GC will be the format I favour when it comes around to release time.
I would like to know who of you will get an X-box, who will not and who possibly will get one if finances stretch taht far.
So?
Biggles
The xbox may have high specs backed by a very rich company of cough cough geeks cough but microsoft are going into the console market with ther usual "we rule" attitude charging £300 for a console that EB have fitted a special door to get the things in and out the shop, The games are going to be $50 so probably about £50 here and the lineup of games is poor compared to other consoles.
Released 72 hours after the GC this doesn't stand a chance now does it, PC owners may have a browse over this computer in a box but honestly i think it'll flop and I don't hate it at the moment but it's nicked one of the PS2 games and if it steal anymore I'll write an xbox emuator for the PS2 myself!!!
eh eh eh

We have all heard the reported 200 million polygons a secong throughput of the Nvidia chip, and I don't doubt it for a second, they are the benchmark when it comes to Graphics Processing Units, but the Intel Pentium 3 processor running at 733 mhz is not fast enough to support the Nvidia GPU when it is running at 250 mhz. Therefore, based on this, and feedback from developers, Microsoft, at even this late stage, have had to alter the specifications of the Xbox so that games developers could prevent their games from crashing, because the P£ couldn;t throw data at the GPU fast enough.
Before anyone hits me and says it;s all about the games not the specs, in this case I am talking about the games. They weren't running properly at the full specification of the GPU because it is so damn fast, the Xbox needed a better CPU than the Intel P3, but it doesn't, and that is why the PS2 and the Gamecube will not be less powerful than the Xbox, they wont have as nice graphics (thanks to Nvidia) but the will have as much power.
One area in which I can forsee the Xbox struggling though, is in it's image.
Whenever Microsoft have brought their Xbox out to play it's always introduced with a speech about components, it's polygon count, etc, with Bill Gates looking as nerdy asthey come.
This isn't going to sell it to a great deal of casual gamers, they want to see some games, they want to know they can play on the Xbox, they're not going to sit around counting polygons!
And the PC link won't help either.
Consoles are accepted now as a hobby, but PC gaming is, unfortunatley, still seen as being nerdy, with the stereotypical PC gamer being a geeky looking late teenager, that plays the likes of Quake all day long, writting in l33t speak, greasy hair, thick glasses. It's an image that may get passed on to the Xbox if they're not too careful.
But yes, in the end, it will be the games that make or break this console. As much as people don't like Microsoft, it didn't stop them buying Age of Empires, and if the Xbox has games people want to play available for it, then it will be an Xbox that these people buy.
The PS2 is a compicated beast and used

Which is why the XBox WILL be a success. They always say that a console needs games to survive. The PSX had games in abandon (a large percentage fo whci were pants), and the XBox has a HUGE back catalogue PC games which will be easy to convert for the publishers to make a quick buck.
People will see that there are loads of games available for it, so more people will buy the console, meaning more innovative titles won't be long in coming.
Also, and I'm not jsut aiming this at you turbo but at everyone who slates the XBox, MS have 157 developers signed up to the XBox. Thats more than any other console. Ever.
Do you really think 157 different comapnies can be wrong? I think not. Stop bein so blinkered in your views of the XBox, and accept it for what it will be: agreat console.
You don't have to LIKE it, just accept it, like loads of non-PS2 owners do.

Yeah, and isn't it funny how that's total bollards! I've got a vid clip of it running in 4 player you chimp!
The PS2 is a compicated beast and used incorrectally can be disappointing, and that's what happened with UT. The devs were thinking PC-wise (bad idea) and couldn't figure out why it looked crap. Anyway, the deadline came and they shoved it out and it was crap. Quake 3 however has much nicer graphics and a higher framerate that is super-smooth. Lurvely.

Here is a quote from an interview with the guy making the game on gamespot:
"GSUK: What kind of multiplayer options can we expect to see in WipEout Fusion? Any chance of I-Link support?
RF: We're looking into I-LINK at the moment. As well, there is a split-screen facility with two modes and loads of options like switching pit lane off, changing shield energy level and switching off certain weapons. "
Here is the link it comes from:

When will you people ever just stop making up a load of crap for maximum effect??

It's a notable Bonus.
:D
I've had UT 24 hours and I've almost given up on it because
> the framerate's so crap. It's the same now (and coincidentally, why> UT on the PS2 got crap reviews!)
That makes me laugh if it's the same as the PC version.
why?
Becuase the PC version of UT ran fine on my 400MHz PC. Yet apparantly the XBox isn't powerful enough to be a next gen console. Even though, by the sounds of things, the spec is plenty powerful enough to play UT much better than the PS2.
Bizarre.......
