"X-box: a behemoth in the making?"

The X-box is an interesting console. It will be the most powerful in the world when released and it should be good. But will it?

Recently some of the signs have not been good, increased interest in the GC which goes on sale 3 days before the X-box in the states. That could well lose the X-box some customers.

But the X-box does have a few tricks up its sleeve, DOA3 being X-box exclusive is one of them. Also Sega are meant to be finishing off the Shenmue series on X-box only. With sequels to some of the DCs greatest games at the moment appearing to be X-box exclusives then it should have quite a few good gams.

But the question is will you get one?

I know that I would like an X-box and I am convinced that it will be a good platform but it looks to me like GC will be the format I favour when it comes around to release time.

I would like to know who of you will get an X-box, who will not and who possibly will get one if finances stretch taht far.

This is correct... while watching Cybernet, a developer once said that in doesn't matter how attractive the console first looks, it's how well it's supported. SO even the GC can fail.

but seriously... it is games, not graphics, that make a console. And Xbox has already got a wide range of excellent games. As has the PS2. As has the DC. As will the GC once ninty start to release the Zeldas and Marios!

OK, you list all Xbox exclusive games and then I'll list all PS2 exclusive games. Go on.

and the PS2 doesn't have as many problems as the Xbox? Bearing in mind that the Xbox has far more exclusive games

A lot of the PSoen owners didn't mind it being less powerful because we could play on it whilst Nintys were only dreaming. The same goes for the PS2.

In this next-gen age, graphics do matter. They add to the experience, if not the gameplay itself. I've had UT 24 hours and I've almost given up on it because the framerate's so crap. It's the same now (and coincidentally, why UT on the PS2 got crap reviews!)

Not owning a PSOne, but having an N64 before my PS2 wouldn't make me two faced, it would mean your post didn't apply to me either though.

I'm with FM on this, I will be getting an XBox. If my shares mature at a quick enough rate, I may get a 'Cube as well. (Here's hoping!)

Anyway, I don't know an amazing amount about the technical stuff, nor do I pretend to.

But what I do get, from common sense, is that MicroSoft will not want to mess this up. They know that their reputation is not 100% (to say the least), and so thay will make sure they get this right.

They can't afford to mess this up.

Also, I notcie some of the people that had a PSX didn't mind that it had less power than the N64, "It's all about the games" they (the PSX owners) said. Yet now that the Ps2 is (arguably) the most powerful console around, they put down the XBox for not being powerful enough.
