The Revolution will also be a wireless router for the home, connect broadband to it and it will allow nearby consoles to link and go online. Such as a DS for example.
Rumours:
Revolution will be VERY cheap, will be only a little more powerful than a Gamecube and vastly inferior to X-box 360 and PS3. There will be multiple controllers, touch screen, gyro and camera are all being touted.
If the latter is true then I told you Nintendo are gunning for a different market.

Because they had an interest in that sort of game at the time.

I was using Gran Tourismo as an example of a game that bores the hell out of me. Nintendo have their own tastes. And maybe they WILL make something like you're describing. Why would a game like that have to use a traditional controller?

Dude, this IS the next wave of Nintendo games. This is the new ground they haven't covered yet. This is what Nintendo IS. This is why they've made games like they have so far. I mean, when have we ever expected a "type" of game from Nintendo that wasn't a sequel to another one they'd made?
And as much as we want to play more OOT and Mario 64, isn't the whole reason why we loved them so much was that they hadn't been done before?
And don't write Nintendo off so easily.
They wouldn't be doing this if they didn't genuinely think it was the best way to make new games. I mean, what sort of Nintendoness has to be restricted to a traditional console?

Better?
I can't see why graphics ever need be better than Windwaker...
> More stuff on the screen. As in Pikmin, Paper Mario
Dude, anything more on the Super Smash Brothers screen and you'd have NO idea what's going on.

Sure. I expect they'll have more interactivity in new games.
But like what? What are they going to have you interact with with just a few plastic standard buttons. And evolving touch screen has a LOT more potential for this.
> Smoother gameplay, better draw distances. Mario Kart, F-Zero.
Come on, Gamecube controls were as smooth as they could come.
I understood this on the N64 because it had limitations.
The Gamecube isn't limitless, but it handles all these with ease.

Or they have no ideas for it. I mean, Nintendo have ideas where Nintendo have ideas. They've been saying for years that anymore processing power than the Gamecube has is a waste of power (perhaps that's where the rumours came from).
They know where their ideas lie.
Shouldn't they be develloping what ideas they have rather than trying to live up to the ideas that someone thinks they should have? I reckon that's where Windwaker had the most problems...
> What, get good at stuff that bores the hell out of them?
Like what?
Ninty have covered every single type of game out, and fantastically.
They don't have to make GTA. That's not what I'm saying.
But they sure as hell can use the core gameplay - a single, sprawling local, better than any other company.

I want Nintendo games, that what I said. I love them.
I don't want them to copy other games - I want them to take the basic idea, and make them Ninty games. Because they have the imagination to do so.
Mario Kart with a level designer.
> exadurated.
Should be a word because I like it.

Well ... better graphics. As in the glories of Wind Waker, Metroid etc
More stuff on the screen. As in Pikmin, Paper Mario
More interactive environments. As in what Ninty strives for ... interactivity.
Smoother gameplay, better draw distances. Mario Kart, F-Zero.
I don't see why Ninty's can't use the extra power. If anyone can, it's them.
Dude, if that's what I had to do to make a successful console then I'd jack it all in as a business and do it for a hobby. Heck, why are you even interested in Nintendo if you just want them to make the sort of games that other people make?
I've already said a several times that the Gamecube is fine and hasn't even been used to it's full potential yet (wheras the PSONE and N64 were stretched to their bare limits, to the point where they could barely handle games).
If Nintendo ever feel the need to make a traditional game again, then I bet they'll never need anything more than the Gamecube can handle.
But if this is where Nintendo want to take their games, then I think that's best. They are the only ones exploring this path. And what were they going to do that no one else could on a traditional console?
Fair enough, it means that you'd rather have the new Xbox than the Revolution, but I saw that coming a mile off.
Although I reckon these rumours are a bit exadurated. Isn't the Revolution supposed to be backwards compatable? If so, it must be capable of playing Gamecube games?
Easily the best console for me, and I am more than proud to play most of the games. It rocks my world.

Simple solution to that problem: Ninty gets good at them.
e.g. everyone pulls their fingers out and starts doing some work
Why not? They work magic with everything else.
It was too traditional to be revolutionary, and most of the "original" games were too quirky/shallow/gimmicky to really make it.
The thing is, what's to be done with the power?
I can think of a several things, but none of them are the sorts of things that Nintendo are any good at. Nintendo themselves clearly don't have any ideas for it, I mean are they just meant to pick ideas out of thin air?
So Nintendo are develloping where their ideas are.
Whether these ideas are any good, or actually work, remain to be seen.
I mean, what sorts of games did you want Nintendo making on an Xbox style console that they couldn't already do on a Gamecube?
