"Small, unrelated chat idea"

Okay, how about this. For a small fee (we're talking a low low price here) a month, you get a number of small perks on the site (edit posts etc.) but the main draw is you get your own forum, and the only people that can post in it are decided by you. So no more spamming fools coming in and messing up your cultured discussion of the Iraq situation/boobs.

Obviously there'd be other perks too, but it's just an idea floating around in my head? Anyone interested?

I think the cost would put people off. Personally I like FM's idea of the added extra on the membership fee and allowing only members into a forum.
Having a forum by everyone who pays would take up a load of space.
If possible why not allow the original poster in each thread to edit it and remove any spam posts (of course you would have to be sure that the member is going to respect these rights and not abuse them)

For me it's a tricky one to decide on and implement.

Why not create a members forum for SR members, then if someone spams around ban them from that forum. That way as FM said more people will join SR (as most of the good posters on here are probably members so good posts will be in that forum)
From there you can work out if extra people join and use it to see if any of the other ideas you have wandering your head will be popular enough to implement.

Well.....if everyone got to have their own forum for a small fee, there'd be LOADS of forums to sort through. And if people are sensible they'd just get one person to buy a forum for a group.

Although TotalGames sort of give away games, you can sometimes get a post put up in the letters section in Play magazine, which wins you a game.

Editing posts shouldn't be an expense, evry other forum lets you do it for free.

Yeah, they should be able to swear in the pay forum, and I shouldn't have to moderate it so they can drown in their own little sea of rich-kid spam-monkeys.
