Okay, how about this. For a small fee (we're talking a low low price here) a month, you get a number of small perks on the site (edit posts etc.) but the main draw is you get your own forum, and the only people that can post in it are decided by you. So no more spamming fools coming in and messing up your cultured discussion of the Iraq situation/boobs.

Obviously there'd be other perks too, but it's just an idea floating around in my head? Anyone interested?

Personally, I wouldn't pay for it.

Call me cheap, but with the regular monthly drain on money from my phone contract, contact lenses, magazines, it seems eveyone wants a regular piece of my bank account. And I object wherever possible.

Plus I'm a skint student.

I would be more likely to pay towards an optional slightly higher membership fee with the benefits though.

But think it through - would the benefits really be worth paying that much for anybody?

And if every man and his dog had their own forum, navigating them could be a nightmare, would exclude newbies (who didn't have access) in a way that would probably make them more likely to go elsewhere for their chat, and in my opinion would probably only really host the same kind of banter as in msn - despite the spammers, I think people generally want as many other users as possible to see their threads and add some input.

However, if notables had their own forums, with moderator powers etc, it'd not be too many forums, mostly containing quality stuff, and would give an added incentive to becoming a notable. (Maybe it's just me, but add many more and it'll devalue the label.)

Sweet idea.

I'm up for it. Fantasically enough.. even making it very very cheap will elimate all the muppet baby posters! :)

When did £35 spring up? Originally it was "a very very small fee". But basically, you're just paying for your first GAD prize up front.

Sounds like a great idea, although I must admit, 35 quid is a lot per year, with so manyt other things.

But the idea is nice :)

If you had your own forum, could you award SR GADs?

I wouldn't mind paying a few extra quid when I renew my membership, but to pay £2.99 a month... Just seems like a lot o' hassle just for a forum. Then again, I'd rather not shell out like £35 in a lump sum either.

Ah well, as long as it's optional (obviously) then people can't complain. If they don't want it, they don't pay for it.

Hmmm sounds like SR don't want to give away free games anymore. "how can we pay for them?". Lets call it "operation give them control". "excelleeeeent".
