For me, its not started off at all like any of the previous games, they seemed to throw you into the action straight off, you got to actually do some playing while the story got off to a rushing start, this game hasnt done that to me yet, and this is one of the most important parts of the game.
You have to say that a game really needs a good begining to get things up and running, FF10 starts pretty slow....then with the blitzball scene it gets really good and im starting to think im back in FF, them something strange happens and the game just slowed down again.
Its not all bad, im intrigued to find out whats happening next, and it does seem to be building to something big, its just that, well, i think the graphics may have gone to Squares head at the minute, so far i havent played, i have watched, i hope its starts to improve in that aspect soon.
Got to say though, the graphics and character animations are very nice indeed, but still, a little more play would be nice sometime soon.
FFX is just a great game. Whether there are black lines at the top and bottom of the screen don't make a difference to the quality of the game itself. It rules quite simply, and I am going to play more.
I'm on a boss at the moment with seriously annoying attacks. He is easy to kill with Aeons but it's getting every one of my characters to get involved that is diffuclt. I am gonna try again now though. I want the experience points for everyone, not just Yuna.
I think you should try playing it for a few hours then commenting on how great it is, not just the bad conversion it got from square. Remember, it was originally going to be out in July. I'd much prefer a poorly converted May release than a properly converted July release.
Plus, with the add-on packs I'm sure the borders will then be sorted out.
“Queremos ofrecer siempre el mejor producto posible acorde a unas fechas. Nuestros equipos de desarrollo, ante la trascendencia de este tema para el usuario europeo, están trabajando en este aspecto para poder incluirlo en un futuro en las versiones PAL de nuestros títulos.”
“We want to always offer the best possible product according to certain time constrains. Our development teams, noticing the major role of this topic for the European consumer, are working on this in order to be able to include it in future PAL versions of our titles.” Let's just hope that this is not just PR word. They’ve had ages, it came out in the states last year. Basically they can't be bothered. Vote with your wallets and don't but it. Games which aren't PAL optimized (in some form at least) should stay on the shelves. It's pure contempt. Import away (or hope you don’t have mates with NTSC consoles). If you don't give a damn, that’s great. Some of us reckon our money should go further. If you go to buy it, insist you're only prepared to pay £36.12, as 15% of the original is missing. This situation is one of the reasons I am now seriously thinking about modding my PS2 to play imports. Crappy PAL treatment of games by large companies should be a thing of the past. I'd like to pick up Devil May Cry but I've held off so far as I'm not prepared to spend money on an obviously inferior version.
I don't know why anyone would buy this kind of style over substance anyway. And when Square always screws over Europe with cack conversions and late releases etc. then why line their pockets? What get on my nerves is lazy companies who can’t be arsed to optimized for Europe. Why should we put up with such lazy work? We pay too much as it is, these firms should earn their money. Of course, we could choose not to purchase but that's not really the point. These problems shouldn't exist in 2002. It may not ruin the gaming experience for everyone but it's more important to people like myself. We should demand quality and not accept this shoddy treatment. We complain about these things because we have every right to, as consumers. They want us to buy their software, yet they can't be bothered to deliver us the standard that gamers in other territories enjoy. For me, having half the screen not being used lessens the impact of the graphics for me. I guess some people don’t care if they play a game on a 2-inch screen or 32inch screen – it’s a matter of preference. I do though. I care what the game looks like, after all I am paying £40 for a game and I want it to be perfect, just like a DVD movie would be. There is NO REASON why there should be borders in games, its just bloody lazy and you know it is. Would you put up with watching a DVD with a squashed picture, all the actors looking like they're moving in slow-mo and speaking an octave lower? No, of course you wouldn't so why should it be any different with games? They are not intended to be played this way and from what I’ve seen FFX is a disgrace, even worse than Onimusha and Devil May Cry (and that's saying something). Bad conversions are one thing, and living in Europe you learn to live with them to an extent. However, FFX appears to be an absolutely terrible conversion, up there with the worst of them. Curse you Squaresoft!
I'm playing VII instead. Far more fun. Sure, the conversion sucks, but it plays much better.
You also get Save Sphere Level 3 which means from any map you can choose to go straight back to the airship whenever you reach a Save Sphere. Handy.
I'm currently on top of Sin in a kind of maze that you can only see where you are going when you move working out where to go next. Fun fun fun.
I feel stupid now though :(

Yeah I always do that too. I always make every one of my characters make at least one contribution in a battle. Boosts them all at once that way.

Yeah the first time I did it, I said "I want to defeat the most powerful of enemies" and he said he wanted 250,000 so I quit and reloaded my game (like you I thought I could get him for free). I killed the summoner again, and then saved it. Then I went in and said I wanted to train as a summoner. He then wanted 300,000 so I reloaded again. Click the second choice and he asks for 270,000 so I reloaded for the alst time and chose the last option (which I chose originally).
You don't have enough money?!?!?!? How can you not have enough money?! I paid 215,000 for him and I still have about 200,000 left! Do you not ever find gil in chests? I tell you what, I dunno if you have it or not, but in the Calm Lands there are 2 chests right down the bottom right corner of the map. I think one has 100,000 and the other had 50,000.
> *Sigh*... what would an aeon want with Gil anyway???
That's exactly what I thought. It's also obvious he has no idea what currency Spira uses since you give him 1 Gil and he accepts it just as he would if you gave 100,000.
Anyway, gotta go. 24 is about to start.

I sense sarcasm so I won't get angry :)

Its a long story...
Well, I didn't at first go down into the valley, I continued on, did the Ronso fight and tried to make my way along the mountain. However, due to carelessness (and wanting to use everybody in order to level up), I died (I know, I was shocked as well). So I tried again and it happened again. You see, I don't like to level up just three people because it unbalances my party, so I'm constantly switching people and consequently have to allow the enemies to attack otherwise I would kill them.
But, I decided to go back after dying the second time, and I got down to the cave, blah blah blah and killed that summoner person. However, when i saw the asking price of 250,000 I thought it was a joke and that if I'd answered a different way I could get him for free. But I was wrong. So I've done that battle four times and I'm getting a bit tired repeating over and over again. Added to that, I don't have enough money any way.
*Sigh*... what would an aeon want with Gil anyway???
Oh and by the way, in previous Final Fantasy games, could you still run around upgrading your characters after you completed the main quest?
I hope you can or it will be a bit pointless. You could in Phantasy Star Online. I wanna do everything in one game! Although I know I'll need a guide to get everything. And I also know I'll get bored before getting everything. :-D
