For me, its not started off at all like any of the previous games, they seemed to throw you into the action straight off, you got to actually do some playing while the story got off to a rushing start, this game hasnt done that to me yet, and this is one of the most important parts of the game.
You have to say that a game really needs a good begining to get things up and running, FF10 starts pretty slow....then with the blitzball scene it gets really good and im starting to think im back in FF, them something strange happens and the game just slowed down again.
Its not all bad, im intrigued to find out whats happening next, and it does seem to be building to something big, its just that, well, i think the graphics may have gone to Squares head at the minute, so far i havent played, i have watched, i hope its starts to improve in that aspect soon.
Got to say though, the graphics and character animations are very nice indeed, but still, a little more play would be nice sometime soon.

surely agility is the the ability to dodge and speed determines how many hits you get and how fast a person is at getting a next turn
Anyway, I can add that Overdrive - AP to one of my weapons now but I don't know which. I did add it to one and didn't save it (just to see what it was like). I couldn't work out a way to get loads of AP though.
I've been playing a lot of Blitzball today too. I had only been playing exhibitions before today and was wondering why none of my characters were levelling up. I went on tutorial again and found it.
So I played a tournament and won it. Got top scorer too. I was gonna deliberately come second as first prize was only an X-Potion whereas second prize was 'Golden Arm' which sounded like a great weapon for Rikku (although now I know it is a blitzball technique). However, when inb the final against the Ronso Fangs, I couldn't resist to score when I had the chance. So I ended up beating them 3-0.
Then I went on a search for new players to sign. Blappa's contract with the Al Bhed Psyches expired and they didn't resign him so I rushed back to the airship nd signed him myself. then found some Guada guy to replace the unbelievably crap Keepa in Guadosalam. Then, when in Luca, I found Biggs & Wedge (a nice touch I thought) guarding the entrance to the stadium. So I signed them too. Biggs was pretty poor so I let him go but Wedge is good.
Best of all though, I accidentally pressed square when next to Rin (meant to press X to talk) and it said he was a blitzer and his contract was free so I signed him. He isn't great, it's just I have the almighty RIN in my side!
I now play Blappa as my right forward (I let Datto go) and Wedge on the right (where I used to play Tidus!). Rin is in midfield with Jassu at right back and Botta at left back. The Guado dude is in goal.
With that new team I started a league and won my first 2 matches. Then I played another tournament and destroyed everyone I came to. 8-0 against the Ronso Fangs with 6 of the goals from Blappa! The prize for winning the tournament was 'Attack Reels' - a new overdrive for Wakka!
I'm really getting into Blitzball now.
And another thing, I took another shot at that Chimerageist thing - the monster that the arena guy makes from the fiends in the Calm Lands. I beat him easily! 65,000 with an Aeon's overdrive and then finished him off with Auron, Wakka and Tidus.
Whats your MSN address (if you have it), because I'd like to speak to you about FF10.
You'll need the Overdrive AP ability
Which is?

Well, I admit I bought the official guide today. Not to actually use as a guide guide, but for information on all the sub-quests, extras and general monster tips. It also has a great explanation for levelling up...
You'll need the Overdrive > AP ability. Set two of your characters' Overdrive Modes to Comrade, and set one to Stoic. Fight Don Tonberry in the Monster Arena. Have the Stoic character attack your opponent (this unfortunate character will then be eliminated by the Karma counter-attack). Have your other two heroes revive their fallen comrade. Repeat the process. Even if you end the battle by fleeing, you'll stilll receive massive amounts of AP, equivalent to the damage points suffered.
What I found the most interesting though, is that you can go back and do more things once you've finished the game. This really does make me speculate that Yuna doesn't die. It also explains the ludicrously strong bosses (the ones which do 99,999) which have about 12,000,000 HP. What's more, is that the max HP limit is actually 99,999 rather than the usual Final Fantasy limit of 9,999. Great!
You have 52 S/l???? Why don't you use them??? Not using 52 Sphere levels!!!!! My god!
It's because I was about to enter onto Yuna's route and that didn't really suit Kimahri. Then I decided I'd warp to Auron place with a Friend Sphere but I thought it'd be better if I waited for Auron to get right to the end of his path and then warp Kimahri there so I could work my way back. Anyway, I've used most of them now, just sticking by a level 4 key sphere with Zombie Attack ability just behind it. If I go and get it, I won't have enough Level 4 Keys for Ultima. I have laods of Level 3 Keys now and not enough Level 4s. Grrrrr...
I think I'm right at the end now anyway. However, I'm on a boss that is pretty damn hard so I'm gonna upgrade my characters more.
And I have Passwords 1 and 3 on the Air Ship. I think I know where the third password riddle thingy starts but I can't work out the scripture. I can read it but it means nothing to me.
I have a few good weapons now too. Double AP for Tidus, MP Costs 1 for Auron and Rikku and No Encounters for Lulu and Tidus. I have a few pieces of armor with 4 blank slots as well. They'll come in handy once I finally decide what to put on them.
And there is one bitI've got to so far where all the enemies you fight are those monsters that the guy in the calm lands creates. Yeah, all those impossibly difficult ones. I'm not sure if they are though. Two of them were but the rest I didn't recognise and were fairly easy.
The most annoying thing about this boss I'm on at the moment is that you can't save it just before you fight him so every time I wanna take a swing at it I have to go through a fighty bit first, then a pretty long cut scene and then I get into the fight. It's a bit annoying.

it'll definitely be a game i play through a second time
The story is really getting excellent now and i have only been playing 23 hours and it sounds like there is a hell of a lot more from what you lot have been saying.
Well, I'm off to play some more now. Gotta get a few more sphere levels for Auron before moving Kimarhi to his location. Kimarhi now has a sphere level of 52!
And I have a few level 3 keys now too. 4 I think. I'm gonna get Ultima too, as soon as Auron reaches it (about another 10 or so places).
