I was going through the archive earlier and came across Turbo’s Web Design Pledge. Although I can vaguely remember this when it happened, I thought nothing of it, but upon reading it again, something really caught my eye.

“However, the forum is just being "used". Where as forums like the FOG are ever-popular, with people visiting regularly and generally having fun, the Web Design forum is merely being "used" for question and such like. Well, no longer! I want to turn this forum into a proper community.”

He is right here, this forum is only really used by people wanting questions answered, but I think that this forum is probably the best on the site. Mainly because nearly everyone in here knows what they are talking about. But I don’t like how the forum is used just for questions.

So here is what I propose, we use this thread for general chat. Not just web design, anything at all. Since not many people pass through this forum anymore, it won’t get spammed up too much, it’ll just be a place where people can go to be themselves.

If it doesn’t work, then fine. I just think this thread will be able to make this forum more of a community.

So… what’s up everyone? :0)

Ohh la la a 24port hub, tis alright for some ;) bet you have some good LANs with that, but yeah, I knew what you meant about the hub in a suitcase, sounds cool, I just meant: I saw some a while back, not sure where, maybe eBay but I thought most/all big hubs came in the size of a laptop/suitcase type thingy.
Thats obviously not the case...*sigh*

but anyway, building a LAN box would probably be easier because it's just a small box with some ports, although you'd probably end up having to buy a suitcase sized hub to fit into you suitcase :)

Er..LAN box as in a suitcase with a pc inside, so I can take a gaming PC to LANs without having to pack up deceit here and cart it off. I have a 24 port hub anyway, like to get a switch some time really, or at least go beyond 10mbit..fine for gaming, but I could do with 100mbit for file transfers..

No idea how many ports you'd have, but don't most 24+port LAN boxes come as laptops or something similar? that would be cool to have one that size though, easier to carry round and thats pretty much what it would be doing.
Don't you have your own LAN? I got the impression thats what you did in your spare time to geta little extra cash :)

Well, had case side off for ages now, but they make it all look much tidier inside..ribbon cables are horrible to look at, and really block up the window. I'm intereste din building a LAN box too, suitcase-stylee.. guy I met at i10 is trying one, should get back in touch with him and see how it's going. I'd definately customise my own heavily, not follow the standard midi tower approach..

intresting, yes, I would imagine it would be extreemly difficult to get a strong build without making it very heavy, I guess copying a already made case might be a good idea.
Tools, you wouldn't really need anything much, a drill for the holes, a clamp and some brute force :) I guess you'd have to building it around the motherboard though, but if you got really cocky it could be quite cool, building grooves for the cables...etc

ooh, how are your round cables going btw? forgot to ask :) any noticeable improvement?

Thought about that actually, probably worth considering when Ihave some more time, we just don't have any remotely suitable tools around the house...could use school I guess. Would be an interesting project to try, I guess..

If you wante to mod your own, you could cut the back plae from an old (good) case and make your own :D that could be quite cool, but difficult to get all the screw holes in the right place, but you've had enough experience from what I gather surely making your own case would be a good idea? you can get Aluminum sheets quite cheap from DIY shops :) also you'd have the option to completly customise it, hhmm, maybe not.
Maybe the CM cases will come down in price soon...
