Or as it is otherwise known - The MLB Thread

So Yankees, as always busy around deadline day and were quite successful. Abreu and Lidle for a bunch of minor league prospects of which only Smith looks half decent. Don't know too much about Lidle to be honest but Abreu will give another strong bat and some experienced coverage for Sheffield while he's out injured (and more than likely replace him for next season) Also picked up Craig Wilson for Chacon to give us another strong bat. Had him in my MVP Baseball 2005 team as well actually. Might mean Andy Phillips doesn't get as much time as he should though which is a shame.

Red Sox and Jays did nothing and we kept hold of Cano, Melky and Phillips so a good trade deadline time all around for the Yanks

Yep, Hughes' fastball and breaking stuff were working nicely. The only ball they got away with any venom was the home run which he left up. Chamberlain's slider was vicious as well. It's almost like a fastball that disappears down.

Good start from Hughes as he gets back into top fitness. Good night too results wise as both the Mariners and Scum lose as we make up ground in both races

Oh well, it shouldn't affect the Yankees too much. Didn't affect them tonight. It was an easy win against Cleveland.

What a joke that Clemens 5 game suspension is, he gets penalised while Towers who caused the tension and the 2 bench clearances gets away with no penalty. Utter nonsense

Yup, we're entering the 3 weeks of hell now with lots of tough teams coming up. If they can get through that with an over .500 record it'll be good seeing as after that it's pretty easy going

I was looking at the gameday live feed and if it was a ball, it wasn't one by much. I can't say whether that was the intended location but it seemed like his control was good.

Cleveland at the weekend for the Yankees, which is a tough series I think.

Yea Joba did well for his debut, walked on 4 balls but i'd put that down to just first game nerves as he usually has good control.

Clemens absolutely plunked Rios, looking at the tape he was aiming right for him. Good old Rocket :-D Would have liked to see Stairs get blasted around by Duncan though hehe

So, the chase is over then. Bonds hit 756 last night. At least we don't have to mention it again. :)

Yankees half a game back in the Wild Card and now 5 games behind Boston. Cairo is either moving or being sent to the minors. Chamberlain did fairly good last night.

Well the squads were smaller to so they didn't have the luxury of 5-6 relief pitchers to call on. So really unless you were doing a Pavano, both in the sense of getting injured or sucking terribly, you'd be staying in all game

Not to sure about mound changes but there have been various things changed to the game to help the batters out. Back at the start the pitchers had an advantage from the start just because the parks were bigger. That got changed in the 20's when they ruled to bring the fences of some of the larger parks in and they also changed the rules regarding the strike zone and the ball itself. Before then you could really go inside on a pitcher and it'd still be a strike. Then of course the DH was introduced in the AL back in 73 which helped the batting team to.

I'll have to do some research on the mound thing, i don't remember specifically but i certainly remember one baseball game where they were talking about it, whether it was just the fact a mound at a certain park was higher/lower than normal i don't know

Yeah, I suppose back in the day they never worried about pitch counts and injuries etc. Wasn't baseball a pitchers game 20-30 years ago? Something about mounds being higher or did I just make that up?

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
