Booked your test yet then?
16th lesson
Remember, as long as your instructer's list isn't too full, you could always increase the number of lessons a week that you are having in the last couple of weeks if you don't feel ready.
Some instructers will try to milk you for as much money as they can. My instructer kept giving me 45-50mins mock tests. I did 2 mocks and failed both of them, but the real test is only 30-35 mins usually and my examiner was a lot less harsh than my instructer (I hit the kerb once, didn't do too well on the reverse around a corner and rolled back 3 times on hill starts and I got 14 minors, so I passed!) I also only learned emergency stops 2 lessons before my test, and I found it quite easy (only one in three tests ask you to do it)
And, although I didn't pass it, my instructor did say that it didn't got that badly, and that I only failed it on making so-many 'minor' mistakes - like not checking my mirrors at certain points, or, at one-point, not even indicating at-all.
I'm almost there, but I still have a few little-things I need to work on.
So, even with a 7-week waiting-list, I SHOULDN'T book my test just-yet. :(
My 3-point turn was, to be quite honest, TERRIBLE!
I did the first point fine. Didn't hit the kirb or nothing.
With Point 2, I forgot to turn the wheel back the other way, right before I stopped - turning it into a '5-point' turn as I realised what I had done in the third-part.
He said I was good with my reversing round a corner, but that I should've pulled it round the corner a bit tighter - that's all.
Good observation and straightening it up, though.
My Emergency Stop was done well also.
...Or so he said - as I hit the clutch and brake at more-or-less the same time! :)
In my general driving, I failed for not checking my mirrors on the approach to a hazard, and for being a bit like Principal Skinner when it comes to turning out from a junction.
"Maybe... Maybe.... No. Oh, maybe.... No." (and so on!)
He says to do another one next week, and providing I don't do too-badly then, I should be able to book my test, 7 weeks in advance.
And that's what's really getting to me - 7-whole-weeks.
And to think, at 18, I could've started all this over a year ago! :(
In seven-weeks-time, Summer will virtually be over, and I'll be needing my license I won't have to get to college and back.
Plus, I'll be taking my test at the Souhtmead centre - the toughest of the lot in Bristol! :S
Next lesson is not till 3rd July as instructer is on holidays
Then I go off
After that I might have 2 a week for a bit to catch up. No point rushing as I won't be able to get a car until the start of next year.
Drove-around well, turned-corners quite well (...most of the time), and even dealt with some general hazards well, also. Didn't seem to get in the wrong-lanes or anything! ...Although, I did stall just the once. :)
I was thinking really positively about my lesson this morning, when usually I'm thinking about just getting it over-and-done-with.
Perhaps that made a real difference?
Or was it just because I woke-up early, this morning??
Haven't booked my proper test yet, but will do very-soon.
My instructor says I'm almost 'there', and I'll be taking a 2-hour-long Mock Practical Test next Thursday morning.
If I do well in that, I'll book the real-thing, I reckon. :)
Best get some practice in, then!
Haven't had any real chances to this week, though.
Been working most of the time, and my mum's been borrowing my car since her Focus starting playing-up and making funny noises.
But hey, at least I got a FREE full, tank of petrol out of it!! :D
It just makes things so-much easier!
Even though I haven't taken my test yet, I've got my silver escort, and I try to drive that around as much as possible.
When I first got it, I did struggle with the steering, a bit. But after a lot more practice, it seems no different to the Polo I'm learning in.
....Except when I try to attempt turning-in-the-road with it, and, instead, end up doing an 8-point turn, buy mistake...!
I'll definitley be taking my test in one of their cars - not mine! :S
Even after my 17th lesson today, I'm still not quite there and ready to got ahead and take the practical test.
My speed has improved to a much safer level, and I'm really getting the hang of how things work in the roads around me.
And, in my instructor's car, I can do all 3 of the manouveres, and the Emergency Stop really well - without too-much hassle.
I just need to look-around a little more, though.
But it's looking-ahead and thinking about what I'm going to do BEFORE I get there - that's the one-thing I need to work on, now!
If I can do that soon, and prove it to my instructor, I'll book my test.
But, whether I get now it or not, I really can't see myself going more-than-20-lessons without having booked it, anyway!
*chuckles*
I learnt in a car with power steering and all the extras that make driving comfortable, and passed my test in March.
I wasn't looking forward to driving my G-reg Ford Escort (which has a manual choker :S).
When I passed my test, I sat in the drivers seat, drove about half a mile, and I thought it was great!
Now I drive back and fore work every day and driving seems automatic now! I have to steer like crazy, have dodgy gears (all four of them) and an engine that likes to cut out in the middle of busy roundabouts - but I play my (dodgy) radio loud, have the windows and sunroof open, and really enjoy driving now.
Believe me, it may get hard when learning, but once you've passed, providing you keep up the standards, it's great fun!
