I'ma bit nervous
I was going up this really steep hill, and my instructor tells me to give it "more power", to get the thing moving upwards, so the traffic behind me doesn't get too p'd-off. And then he told me to give it more power - just like Tim the "Tool-Man" Taylor, from Home Improvement...!
Brilliant!! His impressions weren't that great, but they still made me laugh. I'd have never of thought of him as being a Home Improvement fan... Never!! :D
Is it really as hard as it looks?
Even though I haven't even practiced it yet, I'm dreading getting told to do it in the test... :S
The theory test isn’t too bad; I got 30 so I just got enough. I managed to pass the practical test first time, but I still remain the only person to get a dangerous fault on the mock test.
After struggling with the reversing part of the 3-point turn, I was expecting this to be hard-as-nails (or, at least something very-hard, anyway...). But by looking in the left-mirror, and following the edge of the kirb, it's really not so bad. And after finding the 3-point-turn quite simple, and I have to admit that I wouldn't mind getting asked to do this particular manouvere, in the final test.
I'm feeling more-ready-than every for my Thoery Test now, after getting a 34 in one practice exam, and some 32s in others. If only my PC ran those HP ones better... I'll be booking my place at the local test-centre for some time next-month, tonight. :)
And then it's onto some more reversing next-lesson, and probably some parrallel-parking, or something, after that. :)
I feel I'm progressing well. And as long as my dad stops trying to teach me in my Escort, and just allows me to drive; I'm confident I will pass the practical test first-time around. :)
I can do my 3 point turn, or 'turn on the road' as it is now known. Reversing round a corner is pretty easy now although I had a bit of bother with that at first. And my parrallel(sp?) parking is really quite good.
I feel it won't be long till my test now, just need to get used to country roads and I'll be all set I think.
Still need to do the Theory test though, why the heck do we need to answer first aid questions for?, they get me all the time. As for the HP test, well I don't know much about that, my instructor says he'll get me a tape, but I'm still waiting.
Oh well, can't wait till I have a license.
Freedom!
:)
From the way he first explained it, I always thought you had to bring the clutch up as you push-down on the gas, without holding the clutch steady, and releasing it again once you've gained some speed.
But I finally figured it our for myself, though, and even went the whole lesson on Wednesday without stalling - not even once!! :D
Did some more 3-point turns... Also seemed quite easy. :)
I haven't hit anything yet, besides the odd kurb, here-and-there. Except for that one-time, last-week, when I just lost my concentration and almost went straight into a hedge, without turning, or even paying any real attention as to where I was going.
I go this Theory and Hazard Perception CD of my Instructor for £6.50, aswell. Pretty good, too. The HP test does take a little getting used to at first, so you know exactly what to look for. And as long as your PC's running OK, it seems it's not too-hard to spot the Hazards you are looking for, within good-time.
I also took a Theory Exam on the other CD, and got a frustrating 29 on it! :(
I'm still gonna go ahead and book myself a Theory Test for next-month, though. :)
Was good though
Mastered the clutch and brake thing at roundabouts, he never expalined it to me though, I had to work it out.
There was only 1 cocky Year 11 around, though. But not even he was able to see me, as a great big coach for Swimmers was parked in the way of his view, with the engine still running. Phew! :)
I've only ever stalled when pulling-away at the very-start of the lesson, or when stopping at the very-end. Never along a main road, or at a junction, or anything.
