Big name, big game and big fan following...it's bound to be a game widely discussed!

As we seem to have a thread for most of the big games, I thought we may as well have one for this behemoth of a game - so if you have any ideas, favourite ways to play the game or just want to pass comment on what already appears to be a fantastic and absorbing game - please post here.

If you want to discuss the plot or other aspects of the storyline - remember to use the

tags to hide it from people who want to play the game without ruining it for themselves.

first off...I'm liking the combat system now - no definite turn based combat? Action seems to be constant even though you have to select your moves. Brilliant?

I've pretty much explained the weapon upgrading system to death on this thread as it goes. You might pick up some pointers there.

TBH tho, it doesn't really matter what you pick for each char.... just pick one and upgrade it and stick with it.

I'm finding this a very frustrating game to play. I try to play the first time without any hints or tips but had to google the Eid fight for Vanille (sp) as I simply couldn't do it! :(

Also, I have never died so many times within one game. The only upside of that being you get to retry from where you died and not from your last save point. As for upgrading weapons and accessories I'm confused as heck and well undergraded (yeah, I know that's not a word :D). I find that I'm not sure what to level and what not to bother with incase I waste materials / money but not levelling up weapons too much is adding to my dying rate!

I totally skipped the updated "Syn" field so far, but will go back, as I know what I need to get around it but not how to get that particular 'item'.

Enjoying the story, so want to see the end of it, and I don't mind the role upgrading system but if it wasn't for the fact the PS3 is borrowed I would have kicked it before now!

I managed to finish the game and do a few side quests, to which I will probably return at some point. I thought the game was good and about matched my expectations (although I've only ever played X and X-2 so not exactly a 'long-time' FF series follower) and it certainly kept me entertained for many hours.

I do agree with the paradigm system though, if you knew nothing about a boss it was luck whether or not you had the right set-up in the bag to get them down, more than once I became frustrated with this.

So, it's been a while now. Final thoughts?

Personally, I gave up. A sad thing that, this is the first final fantasy since VII that I not only didn't complete, but actually traded in.

I'm not sure why I hated it so much, nothing was really "annoying" but everything felt... wrong. The story itself was alright, C+ at best for my liking, but the way it was told was just bad. The 20 hour intro, the datalog, the flashbacks, nothing really settled with me.

The combat system left much to be desired, some very bad concepts there such as the leader dies the party dies, auto-attack and only controlling one character per battle.

The paradigms were a nice idea, but fell on their face in practise. I often found myself dying several times during a learning boss as I simply didn't have the right paradigms set up before hand. It's as though the game expected to know each boss fight before you began.

I also didn't care much for the upgrade system. It felt like a last minute addition to make up for the lack of decent weaponry or armour in the game. None of it made much sense and just seemed to be a random lottery in hoping you had the right item at the right time for the right weapon/armour.

Graphics, as to be expected, were phenomenal, but a dud covered in sparkles is still a dud.
