"First year of PS2 a waste?"

I dunno if any1 is gonna agree with me on this one, but I think that the first year of the PS2 has been almost a waste of time, it started well with SSX, quake revolution was ok no online play though, GT3 is amazing and is well worth it, but what else!?? Tekken Tag, what a let down, driving emotion type S made me laugh and ridge racer 5 barely scraped past the finish line! Is that it, is that what £300 brings you over one year, there should be at least 40 top class titles to choose from! At least next year looks a lot more promising, with the likes of Metal Gear Solid 2, Tekken 4 and Devil May Cry in the pipeline the PS2 is looking up, but the fact remains that 1 year of the PS2's short lifespan has gone! Has the first year been a waste?

Anyone else notice that Mr Ortega's opinion of PS2 seems to vary quite wildly depending on the forum he's posting in?

Before i got a PS2 about a month ago i thought the Gamecube game line-up looked pritty poor. After playing on the PS2 for a month i have realised that the Gamecube dont look so bad at all. PS2 hs got to be the most over-rated console of all time. I just thank God it is a DVD player...or it would have been a complete waste of money.

I was gonna wait until next christmas until I was going to get a Gamecube, but it looks like i have OVERestimated the power of PS2. Gamecube will be mine at launch.

Nah, I wasn’t impatient, mate.
Rain and I have had a good year with the PS2. Had we waited for a price drop, we’d have missed some clever stuff – not just games, but films too. I’ve pretty much ruled out the Game Cube. But I think I’d quite like an X-Box at some point – it is looking rather swish. See what happens.

Terrible luck over GT3…

in some ways i am glad i didn't get a ps2 when it first came out...i was planning to but i somehow decided to get a dc....

but the ps2 will be worth it for me...cos i don't have a psx ...therefore i can try the ps1 games that i had always wanted...
stuff like tekken tag would be cool to me too cos i don't have it....
i don't have a dvd player either.....
and its cheaper now too :)

Brilliant ! Some1 agrees with me ! Although I have a new point to make, i think now is a good time to buy the console, ive been thinking. Get it now in the special reserve bundle with GT3 for a cheap enough price and avoid the christmas rush. That way, ure preped for the future and u have the best game around to keep u busy! Maybe the whole first yr has been crap but GT3 may push peeps over the edge and at the same time prep the owners for future games and make them avoid the christmas rush, be warned though, watch out for crappy first yr release's spend ure money on some cool DVD's instead!

I agree so far the PS2 has sucked.

Ok it has had some good games but not many in my opinion.

ok GT3 maybe not worth £300 and even using the DVD facilaty is not worth £300 but rolling in a 3:00AM in the morning Drunk with some mate's, you can't beet SMUGGLER's RUN!!! a game you never get tired of, its simply wicked...

Then there's Timesplitter's another great game...

Stop being so impatient... look at what the PSX had in its first year (wipeout) ohhhhh....

anyway thing's can only get better.

Excuse me !! GT3 as good as it is, the best release this yr, is not worth 300 pounds alone! I should of waited until the second yr of PS2! Another owner of the mighty PS2 who doesnt want to admit that the first year was utter crap!
