I dunno if any1 is gonna agree with me on this one, but I think that the first year of the PS2 has been almost a waste of time, it started well with SSX, quake revolution was ok no online play though, GT3 is amazing and is well worth it, but what else!?? Tekken Tag, what a let down, driving emotion type S made me laugh and ridge racer 5 barely scraped past the finish line! Is that it, is that what £300 brings you over one year, there should be at least 40 top class titles to choose from! At least next year looks a lot more promising, with the likes of Metal Gear Solid 2, Tekken 4 and Devil May Cry in the pipeline the PS2 is looking up, but the fact remains that 1 year of the PS2's short lifespan has gone! Has the first year been a waste?

no mate it's not a waste, Ask any PS2 owner and i bet they're happy with it, It's every non owner or ninty who say the PS2 is rubbish. The launch was a bit of a mess with developers updating old games so we'd have something to play and they're not bad it's just we really want fresh new games like zone of the enders, red faction etc. The first year has set the ground and by the end of this year the PS2 will be well away.
Every console has it's faults whether it's the dreamcast's flickering background, the n64 blurred effect or the PS1's so called squares but the anti analysing issue is not a serious problem and developers are now overcoming this and the games are much better.
Do i need to repeat that long list of great games coming to the PS2 or not, nah, well ok 2 then, MGS2 and the most amazing water effects seen splashdown.

No doubt you'll get a few Sega/Ninty fans who'll agree with you mate, but yu won't find many PS2 owners.
And before anyone says it, it's because 99.99% of them are genuinely happy, not because they don't want to admit it.
I paid out over £200 on a Rio 500 MP3 player over a year ago, and I've only used it once. THAT was a waste of money.

To answer your question, no it has not been a waste. There has been some good quality titles released, Red Fraction, Moto GP, DOA2,ZOE, and i could go on. Also there has been plastation 1 games realeased that you could have purchased, FF9 and others. There are more great games coming out that you have mentioned. Remember though every console does not have a great first year of games, did the DC really have a much greater first year than the PS2. The later games are always much better than the first batch, personely i dont have a problem with the first year of PS2 and cant wait for the next and more to come. But it is annoying the amount of stick the PS2 is getting.
