"First year of PS2 a waste?"

I dunno if any1 is gonna agree with me on this one, but I think that the first year of the PS2 has been almost a waste of time, it started well with SSX, quake revolution was ok no online play though, GT3 is amazing and is well worth it, but what else!?? Tekken Tag, what a let down, driving emotion type S made me laugh and ridge racer 5 barely scraped past the finish line! Is that it, is that what £300 brings you over one year, there should be at least 40 top class titles to choose from! At least next year looks a lot more promising, with the likes of Metal Gear Solid 2, Tekken 4 and Devil May Cry in the pipeline the PS2 is looking up, but the fact remains that 1 year of the PS2's short lifespan has gone! Has the first year been a waste?

I can't beleve you think the first year of PS2 has been a waist!!!

Do you know how many DVD's I've watched on it at least 30!!! ok so the games let it down a little bit but Devil May Cry looks great and everybody knows how good Metal Gear Solid 2 is going to be.

No, it was 9 out of 10, not 9% you chimp.

To make the best descision on this subject we need a few non dc owning, non ps2 owning peeps, or, people who have both, that way no1 is going to b one sided to the console they own!

Forgot Ridge racer and Ridge Racer 5, mind u both are pretty pants!

I do remember the first yr of PS1 games, and they were the reason i bought it straight away, they showed new graphics and styles of gameplay neverseen b4, notice the difference here? first yr of PS1, Wipeout, Tekken and further on Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo, amazing new stuff these game were, now compare with Wipeout FUSION, Tekken 4, Metal Gear Solid 2, Gran Turismo 3. Notice the difference, all sequels. Al though certain tweaks have been made and graphic overhauls we have seen this stuff b4, plus most of the games arnt even out yet !

it hasnt been a waste you are just impatiant...remember the first year of psone games? tekken ?ridge racer?..in my opinion they were crap..besides the big releases arent that far away (only 4 months till christmas)..just hold your horses.

No way has it been a waste.

Red Faction, Zone Of The Enders and Gran Turismo 3 are some of the best games I've ever played, and Star Wars: Starfighter, Extermination, SSX, Smugglers Run, Summoner and parts of Shadow Of Memories were rather good as well.

And there's still Smackdown 3, The Getaway (?) and games like Max Payne to come.


And I know have 6 lovely DVDs.

The best any console can do in twelve months is whet appetites. Remember how terrible the original PS1 games were in comparison to what we can play on the PS1 today?
Gaming wise, Sony are gonna the owners of their systems proud. The fact that Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy have made it to the cinema should increase sales and inject a whopping amount of cash/motive for publishers to provide PS2 owners with intelligent, big budget, movie software. Another bonus lies in the fact that PS2 players are reluctant to buy duff games. The standard, V9, should continue to rise.

Thanks for all the replies but I think i need to clear some things up. Firstly I own both a Dreamcast and PS2. I purchased my PS2 along with SSX about 3 months ago, and since then ive bought GT3 but have found no other games worth up 2 £40 of my had earned cash. The other day me and a few friends started talking about quake and unreal and as I already own Quake for the PC i decided to purchase unreal despite some of the poor reviews it's got from certain websites and magazines, this was for 2 reasons, talking about the game got me interested for a small period of time and i had money in the bank doing nothing, lethal combination! I have yet to decide if this was a mistake as the game arrives 2morrow, ill post a message then to update my opinion. But my point is, they are the only 2 (3 2morrow) games I own, SSX, GT3 and Unreal, i have a DVD region x for obvious reasons but thats it! I bought my dreamcast b4 christmas for £75 off one of my mates and that baby has seen more action than pamela andersons bed springs! It has been well worth it and I need to say (Because ive never seen it said b4) I am a PS2 owner who at the moment preferes his dreamcast.
