"It's Zelda for Grown-ups" - IGN

It's this kind of comment that makes me want to headbutt people.

It's on the advert for BG&E, it's on the inside cover of NGC, among other places. You'd think IGN had more sense..

No. I like Azurik because it's a free roaming platformer (even though it was billed as an adventure) the puzzles are good and really feel like they're part of the environment, the graphics put me in mind of Zelda and the magic system is nicely implement + you get to hit a lot of things during your travels which always livens up a platformer.

I got it in a 2 for 26 quid deal, so I didn't fall for the 'hype', I simply wanted something different, this is also why I bought the quite forgettable DOA 3 (10 quid) a few weeks back because I hadn't played a fighter in a while.

Too right you can't. Having a pop at the classic Resident Evil only to mention that game a few posts later is sacrilage!

I fell for the hype as well :)

The only platformer I like at the moment is Azurik, so I can't really comment.

I only played through Mario 64 because it was revolutionary and I wanted to beat Bowser, did I go back to the levels for all the stars? Definately not.

Give me Goldeneye over Mario 64 anyday.

I wouldn't say 'growing up' is exclusive to Playstation owners infact I think a lot of people would consider the opposite true.

Most platformers are 'fun', but also have annoying control systems, camera angles and get very repetitive before too long. Metroid Prime is far better than Zelda and Mario, but not as fun

For you maybe, but I found Metroid Prime ultimately more enjoyable than either of those.

A fun game isn't crap...

Metroid Prime's seriousness... and hitman 2's etc... are alright but not something I go for.

GTA's brilliance come from the fact it is fun and serious combined.

True, but you can't mark every game on fun alone. Sunshine may be more fun, but I've got a lot more enjoyment out of Metroid Prime than any of Nintendo's other attempts.

It can be fun in places, though. Despite being horribly hard, the Omega Pirate is great fun to slaughter.

There are plenty of games that are 'fun' that are complete crap.
