It's this kind of comment that makes me want to headbutt people.
It's on the advert for BG&E, it's on the inside cover of NGC, among other places. You'd think IGN had more sense..

Hitting a stick with a ball is more innovative.
Metroid Prime was straight down to business.
Not much scope for messing around.
A third person mode for a bit of fun platforming and trying out Samus' jumping moves would've solved that but I've said all that already! ;-)
The thing is, although Metroid's basic mechanics didn't leave mucch scope for messing around, the game it was put in was so beautifully designed and so absorbing, you'd never notice unless you got stuck.
Zelda and Mario, meanwhile, had fantastic backbones in terms of controls, but the games they were lumped in, while they had the odd moment, SUCKED!
Mario had a few good level designs but they were too small and over too quickly.
Zelda had you sailing for hours and when you got to an island, more often than not you found yourself on a dead piece of rock with no life to it.
To say that it's had as much thought and effort and OOT or MM is insulting Nintendo.
The Cel Shading is where the thinking stopped and the making do started.
That's where all the passion went and the rest was just tagged on.
Talking of Metroid Prime, is there news of a sequel?
Any news regarding whether they do it "properly" this time? ;-)

Don't forget Perfect Dark:
"I never liked him anyway"
CLASSIC
Not sure I actually wanted to, though.
I'm just one of those people.

Someone has to right for someone to be wrong.
So *you're* wrong. Innovation is what the hardcore gamers want, and Metroid Prime is the most fresh games in recent years.
> But Mario Sunshine was JUST as fun as other Mario game...
Well, I just suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I can see what you're saying, about those fun little things that truly make a Nintendo game, but Sunshine was ultimately disappointing for me. A very good game, but inferior to most of it's predecessors.

The presentation was superb, the gameplay tweaked to perfection and there were still some classic moments (the frozen Hyrule - a defining moment by anyone's standards). Yes, the game was excellent, but there was nothing to take it that extra step and make it great. The game was even mechanical in places. There was copius amounts of dull sailing, rooms that looked near identical in the forbidden fortress, boring tasks like finding the triforce maps and pieces, an unfullfilling storyline and, the most upsetting thing of all, I didn't want to do everything.
Perhaps Nintendo put the same amount of passion into the Wind Waker as before (although I'm not so sure), but the relationship I had with previous Zelda games was certainly lacking this time around.
Anyhoo, Prime is the best Cube game out in my opinion. The titles you mentioned may be more fun, but not as good.
As for the sequel's multiplayer.... how do you know it'll suck? Vast landscapes, loads of pick ups... ways of spotting where your opponent has been via scanner...
Like a massive game of hunt... it would rule.
