Check out IGN, there's a 5 page playtest on there, plus new screenshots and some direct stream videos (which you have to subscribe to get, I believe). The screenshots look incredible, and from what I read, the online multi-play looks and sounds awesome. The level described is exactly the kind of level I thought was lacking from the first game, a kind of 'onslaught' level with fixed gun turrets, loads of vehicles and cool sniping points.

Just a shame I won't have broadband when it comes out on November 9th.

Even the official PS2 mag compared the best PS2 shooter to Halo. And where's Mace Griffin now? What a shoddy game that was - bugs galore!

I didn't mean it was actually crap, I meant that the ratio for development time : goodness was very poor. Considering there was at least 5 years on actual game development I think there should have been a whole lot more.

Metroid was horrible, a big ghastly mess. but that's partly down the the 'Cube control pad being designed for the children of midgets - it was impossible to use if you had adult hands. And strafing was impossible BECAUSE THEY CHANGED HOW IT WORKS ON EVERY OTHER GAME IN THE WORLD!!!!

Nowhere near 7 years. It was approx 4 and that was due to changing platform twice.

Most people other than Nintendo fans found Halo to be every bit as good as it was made out to be.

Breed looked good. And then it was reviewed.

Fair enough, that's just your opinion though. A better opinion (mine), is that it rocked hard.

We have been here before though, Halo didn't pretend to be anything other than a highly polished shooter. Unlike Metroid Prime which tried to capitalise on many different genres but ultimately ended up being a massive disappointment, for me anyway.

The thing is, Halo is naturally an xbox pad game. Sad as it sounds, I'm accustomed to the pad too much, and picking it up makes me feel like I'm actually picking up an assault rifle. It just screams cool. Half Life belongs in the realm of the keyboard and mouse brigade, but if the xbox version can match the PC version gameplay-wise, then it should give console Halo a run for it's money. I'm looking forward to Halo 2 more, because I play it multiplayer a lot. But Half Life 2 will definitely be more innovative.

BTW, Halo was in development for about 7 years.

Considering that, it was crap.

Maybe that had something to do with it being released years later? And actually, it wasn't that great.

What, like the first one did?

I thought Halo was about 30% as good as I'd been made to believe it was.
