Another thread on Mikey, true. But I have to keep my hopes up. Losing my favourite 'Pool striker is a blow that can only be softened with the return of the only 'Pool player I have loved more than him. Mikey is on his way back - that's what The Times seems to think:

Read that in my paper this morning before my run, and then amused myself by thinking of Mikey while running (not in a gay way).

Stevie says he'll talk to him in the England training camp. No-one can turn down Stevie. No man, no woman.

How on earth do you know that?

And could you recognize Udinese's midfield, a team far more highly rated than Newcastle and in the Champions League this season?

Ummmm..... Shearer yes. Given possibly. The rest? I doubt it.

but.... they're not Man Utd or Arsenal from a few years back.

And, English players are no where near as highly rated outside England as in England, so the only way that would sway his judgement is that it would make him think he could slot straight into the first team.

Newcastle are still a top team. They have one of England's most prolific goalscorer's as a figure head, they have 4.5 England internationals in midfield and a world class keeper. They also have lots of money and a massive fan base.

Nah, I don't mean it like that, I mean a few years ago he could easily have gone to Arsenal or Man Utd, and I think was linked with them

Go to www.footballclips.net and look for compilations of him, I'm sure there'll be some.

That's more a testament to how the Premiership has evolved and how it is viewed in a worldwide context rather than Newcastle itself.

The last time I saw him play on the left for Inter, it was a fairly narrow flat four, but he could certainly play there.

I can't believe he went to Newcastle, a few years ago I'd have thought he was far too good to go there
