Add and Remove Hardware doesn't work, says This device cannot start.
Worked fine before, not fiddled with any wires.
Ideas?
I'm using Windows XP? Maybe that's it?
The Volume tab is from Control Panel > Sounds Speech and Audio Devices > Sound and Audio Devices
Atleast it doesn't think that everything's alright.
Infact, I;ve had the exact same problem before. And here's the thing...
...I forgot how I fixed it.
:(
Riiiight. I've lost you. If you right click my computer > properties > sound, blah, blah, blah... do you not get a window with General, Driver or Resource at the top?
"Windows cannot play _______. Your Sound Card may be in use."
Under the Audio Tab the Default device for sound playback is Modem #0 Line Playback which is the only option in the dropdown menu.
For Midi Music play-back the Default Device is MPU-401 which is the only thing on the dropdown menu.

Shame. Headphones?

If it wasn't recognising the soundcard, then the onboard sound card would kick in. So I struggle to see why you're not getting anything at all.

My set up has that (emulated) stuff as well, so I doubt it has anything to do with the problem.
Have you tried checking via My Computer > Properties > Sound, etc. to see if anything looks odd there, or if the driver isn't installed and recognised?
I think it is the soundcard, but I dunno what to do about it.

Just by the sounds of it, that sounds like a pretty important thing.
