Formatted computer, speakers aren't working, no idea how to sort them.

Add and Remove Hardware doesn't work, says This device cannot start.

Worked fine before, not fiddled with any wires.

Ideas?

Ignore.

I've no idea how to install drivers for it.

Ok, downloading audio drivers, thank you, hope it works.

How do I find out what model my CD/RW drive is?

This sounds to me like you aint installed your chipset drivers or your soundcard drivers.

If it's onboard find out if your motherboard is VIA or Nforce, if it's an add-in card check the manufactuer website for the drives. No sound icon in the system tray generally means the drives are not installed or have somehow not installed properly.

VIA

Nforce

Hope this helps.

And I don't think my CD/RW or DVD drives are working either.

Oh well.

Gah.

I'm tired.

I'll check back in the morning. Maybe I'll be more fresh and have some new ideas if all this doesn't work.

AH. I had the same (I think).

If any device in Device Manager is fitted but not operating "properly" - usually because of driver problems - then it places a big question mark in front of it. The fact that elsewher on your system it shows devices as "working properly" does not mean they are. I suspect that your computer has "lost" its sound card driver and that you will need to put it in again - do you have the sound card driver disk and /or your motherbosrd disk available?

If you don't know what card you have then go onto the inernet and download something like "Belarc Advisor" and run it - it will give you all the info you need of what's on your compuet and the program security keys. It can be found at
