I realise that some people on this forum (including myself) are planning to go to university next year, and I figured it'd be nice to see who was going and how far they have got with their UCAS application.

I received my confirmation letter from UCAS the other day to say they have received my application, all I can do now is wait..

The university's/courses I have applied for are

University of Lincoln: Games Computing
University of Lincoln: Computing
Sheffield Hallam: Software Development (Games) - Offer - not for this course, however
Northumbira University: Computer Games Software Engineering - Offer
Nottingham Trent University: Computer Science (Games Technology) - Offer

I have received 3 offers so far.

What universitys have you applied for? Had any offers/Rejections yet?

I've done my trial UCAS form but need to do my final thing online soon when my teacher gets his act together. Currently i'm applying to do:
Edinburgh - Software Engineering
Glasgow - Computer Science & Philosophy
St Andrews - Computer Science & Philosophy
York - Software Engineering
Bristol - Software Engineering & Foreign Travel
Imperial College - Computer Systems Engineering or something

I also want to get into the games industry as so many other people here do, it seems.

yeah or you could just be uneducated in any field for ages. lol. Im kidding. I know what you mean, but other forms of education dont cover topic to the same degree, not to mention contacts you meet in uni. You dont have much sucess programming computer chips (I heard from a lecturer of mine that the guys that program chips earn more than the CEO of the company they work for heh. Im in the right profession) with no education in that subject area except for A Level physics. Also GRANTS..HOORAY!. uh yeah. anyway..getting a DEGREE really doesnt give you much of an edge cos everyone does. Thats why Im getting a Masters. heh. its only an extra year. Who can forget beer and sex. lots of beer and sex. Well. Im gonna be here for just under 4 years..and Im not gonna drink at all..and no sex for me.

wow dude. you did what I could never do. you actually applied to computer games courses. I was considering doing the course a abertay, dudee, or one at ballyfermot in dublin, in the end I just did a general electrical something course (computers, electronics, communications) in bath. Im glad I did cos I dont have to worry about one industry going balls up.

Anyway I started my course this year, just last month, and it rocks. I get to do radar in the 3rd or 4th year..heh. I didnt think there were many people out tere wanting to make games like me. hmm. maybe its time for a gave (ED:[sigh] another typo) dev forum?

oh rigth so UCAS last year, I applied to cambridge, bath, warwick, imperial, brunel and reading..and I got offers from reading, bath, imperial and brunel and an interview to cambridge. I didt actually make my offer to bath, but it was an offer to the masters course so they just put me on the degree one instead I dont actually know which course Im on now. oh well. I think I started getting offers around late november or december so dont worry if you havent gotten any.

I'd rather go to University then get a job straight from college (personal preference, nothing wrong with doing that), the whole experience just sounds absolutely brilliant.

And there will be 10x more attractive/intelligent girls to be with.

My first choice is Lincoln, I went to the open day there and it was fantastic.

Yep, I'm with WS on that one- the experience alone is worth the hard work now.

Unless you need the specialist training e.g Law, Doctor etc.

Though it stil ldoes give you an advantage, and is supposed to be an essential life experience and a great laugh.

Anyone can get into university.

You're smarter for not going nowadays because a degree really doesnt give you an edge anymore.
