I realise that some people on this forum (including myself) are planning to go to university next year, and I figured it'd be nice to see who was going and how far they have got with their UCAS application.

I received my confirmation letter from UCAS the other day to say they have received my application, all I can do now is wait..

The university's/courses I have applied for are

University of Lincoln: Games Computing
University of Lincoln: Computing
Sheffield Hallam: Software Development (Games) - Offer - not for this course, however
Northumbira University: Computer Games Software Engineering - Offer
Nottingham Trent University: Computer Science (Games Technology) - Offer

I have received 3 offers so far.

What universitys have you applied for? Had any offers/Rejections yet?

Exactamondo. As I said previously, I had a chat with some game vets in the indsutry beforehand (2 years ago); turns out most of his employees only have ordinary CS degrees anyway; and while the game industry has no problem looking at both games and general CS degrees in the same regard, the same can't be said for outside the industry.

Well thats why Im doing a broad degree involving a lot of electronics. I dont think you could really do a lot else with a games degree.

Ah, but you see, if I take a Computer Games degree, it doesn't mean I have to go into the games industry if I don't wish to.

It gives me the flexibility of having the skills to go into other area's of the computing industry, not just games

:).

Regarding computer games degrees... http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=5463

If even the biggest and the best can't take care of pay, it doesn't look too good for the 99% of the industry below them.

Nah - I only put Trent down to fill up my UCAS form, I don't want to go there to be honest.

Why? Because I live about 20 minutes away from it, and it'd be boring studying in my home town.

My university accommodation is stupid. The wardrobe isn't backed up against a wall, it has a side on the wall and juts into the room. The light is also fixed onto the wardrobe and wired up so the wardrobe can't be moved. I think it might be designed to give people privacy when they're at the sink, but if you want privacy shut your damn door.
