Apart from being against the law, why can't I kill someone?

I'm just interested in the answers.

But I could just kill them too, I could kill anyone who challenged me. Well, unless they killed me first, but I guess that's just the risk.

Because someone would have to kill you. It's in our nature to get our own back.

The anti-violence bible for example even states, "An eye for an eye" (as far as I'm aware)

So, for that reason, it is in your best interest not to kill someone.
