A really bizarre day in the World Cup today.

Portugal had a similar test to what England had. Iran set their stall out and tried to hit them on the break. Portugal found a breakthrough with a great strike by Deco and the penalty just sealed it for them. Iran had some good chances though.

Ghana pulled off a big shock by beating the Czech Republic. It does seem that the Czechs are really missing a key forward man as they are without Baros and Koller. Ghana took a very quick lead with a well taken goal. The Czechs lacked the killer blow as they were getting caught offside a lot and were restricted to a lot of long range efforts.

The sending off for the Ghana penalty was the end of the Czechs, even though he went on to miss the penalty. They totally finished them about 10 minutes from the end with another well taken goal.

The Italy V USA was certainly a bizarre one, totally ruined by the ref. Italy took the lead with Italy catching the USA team trying to play the offside trap and it not working, leaving a free header. The own goal was a big mistake from the defender. He just took a wild swing and sliced it in giving the USA a draw.

The Italian player deserved to be sent off after elbowing McBride. It was a really disgusting move and he should receive a long ban for that. I can see why the ref sent off the USA player but the ref was far too inconsistant. The last sending off of Pope was a bit silly and I don't think it was a sending off. There were worse challenges that didn't get punished.

Group E is very open now and it should be a good last couple of games in that group with every team able to qualify or get knocked out. Just a shame the game between Italy and the USA got wrecked.

Or England could stop playing so negatively...

Anyway, if Argentina weren't considered favourites, they must be there in most peoples eyes now. They absolutely destroyed Serbia and Montenegro. They are no mugs too as they won the qualifying group with Spain in, I believe.

Argentina's second goal was patience personified and was a wonderful move with what was reported to be 24 passes before the ball was in the net. The game was pretty much over by then as Argentina just took more and more control. The last 3 goals were well taken although I thought Serbia and Montenegro looked like they had enough.

Holland again looked good in the first half but fizzled out in the 2nd half. I'd see it as a bit of a concern. Can't argue with results though. 14 games unbeaten apparently now.

Ivory Coast conceded the first and looked shell shocked, conceding the 2nd. They got a goal back and bossed most of the 2nd half but couldn't find a way back. They are a decent side but they were stuck in a really tough group.

Mexico (the 4th best team in the world according to the hilarious FIFA rankings) V Angola was a pretty poor affair. Mexico couldn't break down a resistant defence and the keeper made a few good saves to keep them out. The draw will be seen as points dropped and a humiliation for Mexico but Angola deserved it. Mexico really didn't have a great deal to offer. Had a good chance late on that hit the post and Bravo should have scored but them's the breaks.

A Portugal win tomorrow will see them through. Italy V USA could be good and I want to see how the Czechs get on against Ghana tomorrow.

England need to swap Lamps and Stevie around. Stevie is on fire at the moment and seems like he just cant stop scoring, while its just not happening for Lamps at the moment. Lennon look ok when he came on, but if he was going to play 5 in midfield the I would have put on Carrick and let Stevie have a free role. And yes I am a Liverpool fan!

Ecuador looked very solid in their win against Costa Rica. Costa Rica really didn't have much ammunition to break Ecuador down and resorted to a lot of long balls, which were easily dealt with.

Ecuador took their goals well and I think it'll be an interesting game against Germany. Ecuador haven't really been thoroughly tested at the back and they seem to have a decent attack. I was impressed by the Ecuadorian player, Valencia, in the first half.

The England game was exactly how I thought it would be. T&T had 10 or 11 players behind the ball and it was England's job to break them down. They didn't really do it in the first half and T&T probably could have taken the lead.

Finally, Crouch won a header without conceding a freekick and that was that. Gerrard's lovely strike at the end sealed it. I didn't think Lampard had a particularly good game. Terry looked very good at the back and Lennon looked lively on the right when he came on.

Sweden V Paraguay was a lot like Sweden V T&T. They had so many chances and Paraguay didn't really create an awful lot. Sweden, although not scoring many, are playing quite well I think. Will England take the opportunity to knock Sweden out? It should be a good game and T&T will fancy stealing 2nd if Sweden slip up.

Yea that's what i meant there sorry GP. The other teams should be quite worried that Brazil managed to (literally in some cases) stroll around and still beat a decent team in Croatia

Well "Ze Germans" were less than convincing last night, although they should have had a few more goals. Looks like it'll be Costa Rica or Ecuador who get the second spot. Hopefully England can go through as winners and avoid "Ze German" until the final and stuff 'em in there own back yard again!
