"So where the hell has SNIPER gone now?" asked Your Honour, turning to the other members of the party.
Grix shrugged, there were much bigger things to worry about than the whereabouts of SNIPER.
Ant however had seen SNIPER disappear, so decided to speak up "Well, he said we were a bunch of stupid morons trying to find this sword, and went off that way." Ant pointed towards a meadow.
"Well if he doesn't care about our homes being destroyed and us being enslaved then so be it. I do, and I vow to find the Sword of Nogard, and slay those foul beasts that attack our homes!" Cried Your Honour, and the three of them set off into the forest.
___________
SNIPER continued to wander through the meadow, it was a beautiful day, the suns were bright and the sky clear. Walking through the waist high grass amongst the butterfly was something that always helped to cheer SNIPER up. Maybe he should catch up with his friends he thought, and he too headed for the forest.
___________
pb marched up to FantasyMeister. "You can't keep sending our men out to die! We only have limited resources, and cannot fight them out there in the fields!"
"Then what would you suggest pb, letting those beasts inside our city walls, letting them slaughter our wives and feed on our children?" Replied FM looking down on pb.
"But we cannot hold out forever. We need help!" said pb shaking his head, as he walked away.
___________
SNIPER's mood had again changed for the worse. Where were those stupid idiots now? SNIPER looked round to see something catching the light in a clearing nearby. Maybe it was his friends! He ran into the clearing.
Moments later he realised that it was not his friends in the clearing, but something much more special. Stuck in the ground was a sword. The sword of Nogard! As SNIPER approached it he suddenly felt a chill in the air. The skies had clouded over, and the wind had picked up to such an extent that the trees creaked. If SNIPER could retrieve the sword, he would be a hero! No more would he be laughed at!
SNIPER grabbed the sword and pulled with all of his might. He could feel the first drops of a violent rain storm lash against his face. Still he pulled on the sword, until it gave up it's hold on the ground. SNIPER could feel great power within him as he held it.
He held it toward the skies as a sign of victory.
_____________
Grix didn't like this change in the weather. Not one bit. Why had it changed so suddenly? He could feel something strange in the air. "That way!" He cried, pointing towards a clearing nearby as thunder crashed in his ears and lightning lit up the skies.
_____________
"Aaaarghhhh!" Cried SNIPER as he was thrown to the ground. A lightning bolt had struck the sword and flowed through his body.
_____________
Your Honour was the first into the clearing. "It's SNIPER" he said, "Or at least it was...." he said, looking at the charred remains of his former companion.
"It looks as if we weren't the first at the scene" Said Ant, pointing towards some footprints leading out of the clearing. Next to these was a strange track, much like that that would be left be a sword, being dragged through grass........
"And what exactly am I going to do with an issue of Just Seventeen?"
pb was about to make a witty remark, when the sky darkened, and there was another flash of lightening. A familiar looking Delorean materialised, leaving flaming tracks as it did so. It stopped, the sound of Sniper bashing against the resilient door was clearly audible.
"The Deloreans always did have dodgy doors." FM said.
There was a loud bang, and the door opened. Sniper climbed out, and approached them.
"Sorry, wrong package."
He took the magazine back from FM, and handed him a brown box.
"Don't open this yet. All will become clear soon."
With this, he rushed back to the Delorean, got back in, and sped off to some distant part of the timeline, leaving behind only more flaming tracks to show that he was ever there.
-----------------------
"I'm gonna have to slow down boys" the taxi driver said.
"There's too much traffic here, and there's a couple of coppers over there" he said, pointing to the blue flashing lights further up the queue.
"They're chasing someone" Dan said
YH squinted into the distance.
"Won't take them long to catch him. He's only in a ford escort." he said.
The group sat patiently in the car, as they slowly trundled on, at a rather slow pace governed by the dense traffic.
-----------------------------
Sniper sped down the hard shoulder, flashing lights in his rear view mirror constantly reminding him of the trouble he was in. He turned off sharply at a junction, but the cops still managed to make the turn. Adrenaline pumping through his body, he skillfully navigated cars on the winding main road to town. The lights grew closer, and still he hadn't shaken them off. Things were looking bad. The town would be too crowded to keep this stint up.
Sniper drove the Escort into town, heading straight down the middle of the main street, when all of a sudden the cop cars made a handbrake-left. Sniper checked his rearview mirros, and mentally unscrabled the writing.
"Bakery, half price donuts today only!"
Sniper breathed a sigh of relief.
------------------------------
"Damn nearly ran us over" said FM
"They're cops. They're supposed to be able to drive!" pb exclaimed.
pb and FM continued down the pavement of the main street. They weren't entirely sure what they were looking for, but even if they were they wouldn't have notcied the three large pine trees towering above the shops, and they certainly wouldn't have noticed that the fairground was right in the midpoint of the three trees...
Sniper flicked open his shades, and in one clean swoop, slid them onto his head.
"Boodaa boodup da, dooh doop do da... doop da, doop da doop, daaaaaaaa doop daaaah doop.!
He leant back, and put his foot to the floor. The wind in his face in the open top car...
He leant down, and turned the radio on higher... Dire Straits, great car music.
"Dum dum di dum dum... that's the way you do it... dum dum dum di dum dum."
Damn. There was a queue ahead of him... ah well.
Sniper steered the car off the road, and went around the queuing cars...
Two cars pulled out of the queue... Sniper looked back. Heh, looks like he's encouraged more to be like him...
Sniper looked in the wing mirror again. The two cars had flashing blue lights on the top.
Sniper thought it odd that the two cars hadn't thought to pull out before... but thought nothing more of it, and pulled back onto the road ahead of the queue.
Sniper began drumming his hands on the steering wheel.
"coooooollllooouuurrrr ttttttvvvvvvvvvsssssssss"
Suddenly, the two cars behind him started off their sirens...
Where the hell did TWO police cars come from? Sniper once again put his foot to the floor, and sped away from the cop cars...
---------------------------
Pb and FM walked ahead... west...
FM was never a great talker. He could never think of anything to say...
There was a long silence before FM spoke.
"Do you think Sheepys ok?" FM asked... he normally wasn't one to worry, but he was mainly reminding people that Sheepy was missing.
"Err... who knows."
Another long silence.
"So, any ideas where the sword is?"
"No, I haven't been following the plot."
Fm looked at the grass... he really needed something to just ease the tension...
Then... the sky started to go dark...
There was a clash of lightning... FM and Pb ducked for cover...
*BOOM*
A flying DeLorean screamed through the air... the wheels underneath glowing white... FM looked up, there were tracks of fire in the sky...
"What the fa...?"
The flying DeLorean slowly began to decend to Earth, coming near to a stop at FM and Pb's feet.
The drivers door opened... and at first, there was nothing but a bright light... then out stepped...
"Sniper?"
Sniper ran up to FM and Pb. He was carrying a bag.
He opened the bag, reached into it, and took something out...
He shoved it into FM's hand.
"You'll need this later."
Sniper jumped over the bonnet of the Delorean, got into the car, and closed the gull wing door.
The car sped off into the sky... and Sniper accelerated to eighty eight miles per hour... and the car vanished, leaving only fire tracks in the sky.
"Now what the hell was that about?" Pb asked...
FM made the first blow, recoiling his imaginry sword as the mime deftly parried. pb watched in awe as the battle continued, each struggling to find a gap in the others defence. Then things went badly wrong. The mime made a poweful cutting sweep, which sent FM's imaginary sword spinning end over end, out of his hand and far away down the passageway. The mime raised his sword for the killer blow. FM, exhausted and on his knees knew he could fight no more. The mime suddenly froze, dropping his sword, and clutched at his neck. He teetered around for a second, and the fell to the floor, lifeless. FM turned to see pb holding an imaginary bow.
"Nice work" said FM
"No problem." pb replied. "Lets get going."
"Where's Sheepy?" asked FM
"He was here a miniute ago.. he can't have gone anywhere in the state he was in, surely?"
"We'd better find him. He must have gone this way." FM said, pointing to the nearby cave exit.
FM and Pb walked out of the cave. It was early evening, and the sun was starting to set. There was a sign outside the cave. It read: "Cave of time: exit only".
Looking around briefly, they noticed several sets of footprints leading east, and a large dented oak tree in the distance. To the west there were fields, and in the distance what looked like the lights of a large town.
"East... or west?" asked pb
It is dark and cold 'Hello he say's' , he zipps up his jacket, there is no answer to his polite greeting.
'geez, I thought I heard someone here' he says quietly
he steps back slowly, as yet he is unsure, there still feels a presence lurking near.
The Morrigan walks away constantly looking behind him and listening for any sign of noise.
But there is none.
What could possibly be going on?
"I wonder if the writer has any idea where we're going yet..." Grix thought, aloud.
"Hey! I'm the one pulling the strings here!" Sniper raised the crossbow higher. "I'M the one that decides where we go."
Grix lowered his eyebrows, and stared at Sniper. "Yeah, but surely the writer..."
"Look where you're going!" Sniper shouted... Grix looked back ahead. "You nearly killed me a minute ago."
"But you did di..."
"SHUT UP! You can speak when I let you."
--------------------
Meka, and Dan, the two wizards, sat in the left hand side of the taxi. Venombyte and Ant sat in the right. God knows what Ant is.
Meka, holding a staff with a skull on the top, and his hair long and braided, told the taxi driver to head towards the land where the sun is reborn.
The taxi driver looked blankly at Meka.
Ant leant forward. "East."
The taxi driver looked blankly at Ant.
Your Honour pointed where to go.
The taxi driver let down the hand brake, and screeched off into the distance.
-----------------
Grix was tapping his hands on the steering wheel.
"Will you PLEASE stop that. It's driving me insane."
Sniper looked ahead...
"STOP THE CAR."
They were in the middle of a motorway...
"Sniper, I don't think it's a good idea to stop the car."
*click*
"Ok, I'll stop the car."
Grix pulled to the side of the road, and turned off the engine.
"Now what?"
Sniper smiled, and produced a remote control from his pocket. He pressed the big yellow button on it...
"Shouldn't that be red?"
"My master doesn't like cliches."
The ground began to move... and the whole hard shoulder began to sink into the ground...
Grix looked out from the window. They passed a floor with loads of scientists on... then another one... more floors...
Then it opened out into a huge room, Grix looked down to the very bottom... He could see hundreds of men in orange boiler suits running around, seemingly for no reason.
A electronic tram sped around the perimeter of the huge room. There was a canopy near the top of the room... almost... as if it was a control room...
The lift stopped at the base of the room... Sniper got out of the car, and orange boiler suited men all crowded around the car, pointing guns at the car.
Sniper aimed his crossbow. "Out."
Grix got out from the car. Sniper urged him into the electronic tram. They got in, and it sped up and clockwise around the huge circular room...
It turned left, and they headed down a small corridor. The tram stopped, and Sniper told Grix to get out.
He used a small electronic card to open a door. The door opened, and he pushed Grix in... he fell to the floor.
The door slammed.
"Crap." Grix searched his pockets... nothing. Damn.
Then, the hairs on the back of his neck went up... there was someone else in the room...
He jumped up, and span around... yes. There was someone else in the room alright.
"Sniper?"
Sniper sat on the bed in the corner of the room.
"Hi Grix."
"why should we?" asked Ant
"Yeah" sais VenomByte "He's been the main character ever since some idiot decided he should fight the overlord.." his voice trailed off, as he distinctly remembered himself being responsible for that..
"That's not what I meant" said Ant. "Our responsibility lies to the people of the pillaged village, not to Grix. he is but one person.
Well, definitely no more than three. Or four.
No wait, I think -"
"We get the point" said meka.
"So what are we going to do?" asked YH
"We find Grix" replied meka. "It will allow for some subtle and entertaining plot twists."
The group walked along, hoping to find some sign that Grix had been this way. They passed trees, fields, and even a cave with a signpoost on the outside reading "Cave Of Time: exit only". YH thought he heard the faint sound of screams coming from the cave, but shrugged it off as his imagination. Eventually they reached a road. There were skid marks on the side of the road, and a slighly damaged oak tree just off to the side of the road. The group walked over to inspect it more closely. Fragments of glass littered the grass.
"There's a large bloodstain over there." said Dan, pointing to an area of grass twenty meters or so away.
The others said nothing. They'd already noticed the blood. There was no sign of Grix here. they weren't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
--------------------------------------
Sniper drove along angrily in the battered ford escort. It seemed strange to him that a getdotted.com car would turn out to be a Ford Escort, but that wasn't the most important thing now. For now, he had to take Grix's body somewhere special...
-----------------------------------
"Nooooooo!" screamed Sheepy "Not the flower in the wind! It's so... tacky. It's awful!"
The mime changed his act. He held his arms out, hands slighly cupped, gloved palms facing outwards. He suddenly flattened his palms, and drew his arms slowly inwards towards his body, occasionally retracting his palms and placing them in a slighly different position. It was all too much for sheepy, who collapsed against the damp cave wall.
The mime turned to pb, and began climbing an imaginary rope.
pb turned to FM, himself sweating and panicked.
"This is no good. We can't take much more of this." pb said
"I have an idea." FM said "We have to beat him at his own game."
"What do you mean?" pb asked.
FM said nothing, and smiled. pb watched as FM advanced onthe mime. He hoped he knew what he was doing.
Already he could feel his role swapping with Sniper with Sniper becoming a hero and Grix becoming the "Kenny" of the story.
It was something that he couldn't solve in this state. Perhaps the rest of the gang would have something interesting to do in this story.
His brain was somewhere else. All it could think about was dreams about the Gaming_Guru finding it in it's beaten state and affectionately rubbing it better...
Sniper, driving the Ford Escort, lined up the wheels with Grix, and drove over him.
And back again.
And then over.
And back once more.
Over again...
Within half an hour, around 200 daemons confronted Ant, Venombyte, Your Honour, Meka, Dan and anyone else who I've forgotten to mention.
Serverly out numbered, Meka spoke out
"Ok, seeing as this is a no win situation, Dan_uk has probably got some heroic scene to write for his character."
He pointed at Dan.
"Do whatever stunt your planning and then get back into being a minor character!" he snapped.
Dan stepped forward, the diamond sword in the right hand hand, the magical staff in the other. "I don't carry these for decoration." Holding the staff and sword in the air, he charged up his magical energy.
Lightening shot down from the sky. Dan glowed as his body slowly split into 2 people. From the right stepped out Dan_uk holding the diamond sword and on the left came Dan2K1 with the migcal staff.
Still charged with magical energy, they charged into the daemons faster than light. Disappearing from view only to reappear momentarily to chop of a daemons head.
The rest of the gang watched un amused.
It was always the same when someone wrote about their own character...
Venombyte aimed his crossbow, and hit a demon in the forehead. It dropped to the ground, waved it's arms around, and then died.
Meka raised his hand into the air, and a bolt of lightning struck the pack of demons following them... they fell to the ground, burnt to a crisp.
-------
Dan bit into the demon leg. He sat with Venombyte and Ant.
Your Honour was talking to Meka.
"As far as I'm concerned, Grix can handle his own problems. We need to concern ourself with the sword. If we have to sacrifice Grix to get it... then I say we sacrifice him. The town is more important."
Meka looked to the ground.
"Grix told me once about what had happened in his brain, when he was fighting the Overlord." Meka looked up, and into the night sky. "He told me that I was a sheriff, and I died in the hands of my father, to the tune of my father's musical watch."
Your Honour looked at Meka, to see if he was getting to a point.
"My father was given a musical watch as a award, when he was in the army. He always carries it with him... it's supposed to be worth quite a bit, but he never sold it. It was too valuable to him."
Your Honour was confused. Meka could tell.
"I never told Grix about my father's stopwatch. Or his name. Grix dreamt it. It was true. Grix is the field of dreams."
"What? He's wrote himself the main part, again?!"
"Looks like it. Unless something really freaky happens like Sniper turns out to be the hero, or something."
------------
"At least let me put the radio on."
"NO!" Sniper shouted... he was getting annoyed now. Grix had been going on about things for the last two hours of driving... he felt like just shooting him and get it over and done with.
Two police cars came up behind the getdotted.com car...
"Uh oh." Grix looked into the wing mirror. He signalled to Sniper that he was going to turn quickly... and then he pulled off the manuvaure.
The yellow car screeched around... and hit a tree.
Sniper lay agaisnt the dashboard... blood oosing from his head... He had forgot to put his seatbelt on. Grix however, hadn't.
Grix lay dazed... he got up, saw his chance. He ran out of the car...
*click*
Sniper stood outside the car, and the crossbow was aimed on Grix...
Where were the damn cops now? Never around when you need them...
Sniper pointed east, and Grix walked ahead of him.
