This machine truly takes you to the peak of interactive entertainment; it not only plays games but also has a built in DVD player, which allows you to watch DVD movies. The Playstation 2 is now destined to become even more popular than its predecessor, having sold a staggering 10 million units in only 5 months. This means simply that your investing in the future, every major developer is now producing games for the PS2 and already the PS2 has some great games released for it. Such as Zone of Enders (Z.O.E.), Timesplitters and TekkenTagTournament. But as they say the best is yet to come with GranTurismo3, MetalGearSolid 2, Silent Hill2, WWF Smackdown 3 and the Getaway sure to be big hits when they’re released later this year.

So did I. Perhaps they only use it in Pagey's world though. You know, inside that padded cell. :D

Ooh, no - I'd have to disagree with that. Graphical progression in it's current form can only go as far as acheiving 'real-world' quality - i.e. you can't tell a game from the real thing. I think we will see that target reached within the next 5 to 10 years.
Beyond that, Virtual Reality will be the way forward - whether that be through better headsets and tactile feedback suits etc., or holographic imaging, remains to be seen. But once current 2D/3D graphics can emulate the real world and manipulate it in real time, that will be the limit.
Other technologies have a very long way to go, though. Storage needs to be massive and provide instant access - think DVD capacity, but with the access speed of RAM/ROM.
On top of that, there's AI. Okay, some game genres would be too boring or difficult if they were too realistic; and after all, a lot of the attraction of many games is the fantasy they provide. But think of the games that could be improved with AI which was equivalent to a human opponent!
Neural nets and organic computers will all eventually help improve processing power, which will lead to these improvements. There was also an item on optical processors some time ago, I think on Tomorrow's World, where they were working on miniaturising laser technology to incorporate into processors... imagine if they succeed... processing at the speed of light.
Sound is already about as good as you really need it in a game, with crystal clear samples and surround sound, but I'm sure further improvements will come.
Graphics technology is the thing that everyone seems to be concentrating on in recent years, but there's definitely a hell of a lot of progress to be made in other areas... and that will be the future of gaming.
ps. my friend Ped found a gameboy advance on a wall. he kept it. lol.
