The Playstation 2 (PS2 for short) is the worlds most powerful games console, its 10 times as powerful as the original Playstation which means that the graphics and sound are simply amazing.
This machine truly takes you to the peak of interactive entertainment; it not only plays games but also has a built in DVD player, which allows you to watch DVD movies. The Playstation 2 is now destined to become even more popular than its predecessor, having sold a staggering 10 million units in only 5 months. This means simply that your investing in the future, every major developer is now producing games for the PS2 and already the PS2 has some great games released for it. Such as Zone of Enders (Z.O.E.), Timesplitters and TekkenTagTournament. But as they say the best is yet to come with GranTurismo3, MetalGearSolid 2, Silent Hill2, WWF Smackdown 3 and the Getaway sure to be big hits when they’re released later this year.

Hardcore Gamer: A gamer who would have little or no other interests other than gaming on one console that provides games that people other than Hardcore Gamers would find dull. A Hardcore Gamer would never lose interest in one companies games and would also dislike third-party developers. A Hardcore Gamer would also not purchase anything else other than games as entertainment. No music, no videos, just games.

So did I. Perhaps they only use it in Pagey's world though. You know, inside that padded cell. :D

As I said before Sony arent the only ones who have made bad games. There maybe a high percentage of crap games on the PSX but that is because there are so many of them. The PSX has tons of great games that are worth buying and playing. All other consoles have had crap games not just the Sony machine. Game developers cant make top class games all the time. I remeber crap games on the Atari St, Amiga, SNES , Master system. Crap games can be to a persons taste, a good game to me mayb crap to you. But there are games which are crap all round.

Some words of wisdom from me:

"Don't wait for the future, for it'll never come."

"Instead, look at what you've got right now."

Ooh, no - I'd have to disagree with that. Graphical progression in it's current form can only go as far as acheiving 'real-world' quality - i.e. you can't tell a game from the real thing. I think we will see that target reached within the next 5 to 10 years.

Beyond that, Virtual Reality will be the way forward - whether that be through better headsets and tactile feedback suits etc., or holographic imaging, remains to be seen. But once current 2D/3D graphics can emulate the real world and manipulate it in real time, that will be the limit.

Other technologies have a very long way to go, though. Storage needs to be massive and provide instant access - think DVD capacity, but with the access speed of RAM/ROM.

On top of that, there's AI. Okay, some game genres would be too boring or difficult if they were too realistic; and after all, a lot of the attraction of many games is the fantasy they provide. But think of the games that could be improved with AI which was equivalent to a human opponent!

Neural nets and organic computers will all eventually help improve processing power, which will lead to these improvements. There was also an item on optical processors some time ago, I think on Tomorrow's World, where they were working on miniaturising laser technology to incorporate into processors... imagine if they succeed... processing at the speed of light.

Sound is already about as good as you really need it in a game, with crystal clear samples and surround sound, but I'm sure further improvements will come.

Graphics technology is the thing that everyone seems to be concentrating on in recent years, but there's definitely a hell of a lot of progress to be made in other areas... and that will be the future of gaming.

hey wookie, I know.....

The PSone was originally the Snes mark II...

NINTENDO MUST DIE!!

well, no. But imagine how different things could have been. Especially if nintendo had used CD's for the n64... could have been a world beater.

Put simply, you're wrong. The Playstation 2 is not the future of gaming. Surely the last twenty or so years have taught you that. When I was younger people called Pac-Man and Asteroids the future of gaming. But where are they now? forgotten classics. The truth is there is no future of gaming, Yes, the Playstation 2 wil carry the torch until the gamecube and Xbox make people realise that there are, in fact, no worthwhile games on the PS2. Ooh, Metal Gear Solid 2, the sequel to an overrated interactive movie. That's worth shelling out 300 quid for. The sooner we realise that there is no 'future of gaming' other than graphical progression, popularity increases and most likely the cost of the hobby. I envision not too far from now, a multi spec unit, which play games, does windows type applications, is connected via cable modem or otherwise to a network of others, plays DVD's cds and so on. This situation may well come about due to Sega's new third party stance. Bridging the gap between Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft by producing games for each of the hardware giants specific new machines. I think that games are headed in a radical new direction, with companies pooling resources... sega and nintendo producing the rumoured 'mario vs/meets sonic game for gamecube/GBA. PC game wise, as game engines get more and more hard to create, my opinion is that several companies will produce game engines. For example, Doom 3 is to use the quake 3 engine. Quake 4 is to use the Doom 3 engine. go figure. Besides, every major FPS of the last few years has been the quake 2 engine.
ps. my friend Ped found a gameboy advance on a wall. he kept it. lol.
