Well, this is quite clearly wrong. This morning/last night I didn’t sleep at all, despite lying in bed for four whole hours trying to do so. Previously, I considered myself not to be a clear cut insomniac, as I could easily get to sleep when I felt tired – it was just a question of whether I wanted to, or as I now do, carry on reading/listening to music or study.

But last night was a first. I tried to sleep, by not thinking of anything, but that didn’t work. Then I went for the “concentrate on one boring thing” approach, but that didn’t work either. What I did do was think up some interesting stuff, such as coming up with new ideas for a little sketch that I intend to write, or whether I should get an Xbox or not. This I did for four hours.

There are quite a few other insomniacs in the forum, and wanted to know if they used any “techniques” that helped them to sleep, or failing that, what was suggested to them by others.
Oh, and should I see a doc for this?

And I'm not worrying about it; I'm already experiencing it.

Well ever since I wrote the post, my sleeping patterns are non existent; a few hours here and there, when I could get to sleep. Sometimes I just don't.

You're worried about insomnia because it took 4 hours to get to sleep and you think you might have to see a doctor over it?

I suffer from insomnia, have done since I was 8 and I'm 21 now. I can go for nearly 72 hours at a time without sleep, now thats insomnia.

I've taken sleeping pills and such but they only make me restless, tried natural methods but they dont work either, and my doctor cant think of anything else to try. I just have to accpet that I sleep very little.

It's irritating because I'm constantly tired. My suggestion is to avoid studying for a couple of hours before you intend to go to sleep, dont eat in the hour before you go to bed, and try and keep to some sort of regular pattern of going to bed and getting up. That usually solves most short term problems.

True but.. I don't see how it can be so difficult to get to sleep.

Just to update, my sleeping pattern is totally mental now; a couple of hours here and there. Today I woke up at 4am, for example.

Apparently if you lie in for ages it doesn't help.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
