Ratchet and Clank 3 went platinum just recently. Being more of a fan of the Jak series, I had decided to wait until the price went down before looking in to Ratchet 3. According to reviews, Ratchet 3 was supposed to be better than Jak 3, a reversal of fortune after the Jak II vs Ratchet 2 match, but I wasn't quite convinced - despite advice from the extrememly knowledgeable monster of the wookiee variety.

Having now played the game however (even for just 10 hours so far), I have to say:

I.

Am.

Stunned.

Its fantastic! Absolutely awesome! The game is accessible for the kids, just about, particularly since kids these days are unnaturally talented when it comes to video games, but its clearly designed with adults in mind. There is a never ending stream of clever touches and things that make me go "Wow! That's such a good idea!!" I spent a couple of hours just fiddling around in Annihilation Nation taking part in the various challenges and death matches - superb! Even the Quark minigames and the new Infiltrator subgames are good fun to play (the Quark minis are made even better by some excellent comic book sequences between games).

Say again: Fantastic, awesome, brilliant, amazing! Thanks Wooks, I should have listened to you sooner!

I played the R+C demo.

I felt the same way.

Weapon of Choice? The Plasma Whip.

I think both the Jak series and the Ratchet series were absolute gems for the PS2.

2 series and 6 games of brilliance.

You never know, he might lumber this way if he's travelling back to Kashhyyyk and spot the post with his name in. If not, I might e-mail him at some point and say thanks.

As for the weapons, I totally agree about the plasma whip, superb stuff! It was an early favourite of mine, although there are plenty of other excellent weapons later on. The spitting hydra is good fun as are the infector and the old favourite, the suck cannon. I recently bought the Annihilator, but haven't yet had an opportunity to test it out.

I thought Jak II was a pile of crap.
Will get more R+C soon, though.

How much does R&C3 link up much with the 2nd one?

Some of the same weapons as 2, has a new RYNO.
The cast is slightly different:

OUT:
Fidgwidget or whatever
Angela
The main baddies

STAY:
Ratchet
Clank
Quark
Plumber

And new baddies and stuff.
Also this one's much more humorous.

So buybuybuy.

In terms of plot and stuff I was on about - because I don't have the 2nd one, so might not know what the hell's going on.

Oh righ, not that much, it gives like a brief summary of the Quark stuff at the start I think.
Generally speaking though the plots are completely unlinked.
