Reffering back to the original topic.

It took me about a month or two teh get through FOTR - I usually read a chapter/a few pages a night.

Although my latest read - "Porno" has gripped me quite a lot - Reading like 3 chapters a day.

Excellent book.

Gil-galad was an elven king, of him the harpers sadly sing, the last who's realm was fair and free, between the mountains and the sea.

His lance was long, his sword was keen, his shining helm afar was seen, the countless stars of heavens field were mirrored in his gleaming shield

But long ago he rode away, and where he lay none can say, for into darkness fell his star - in Mordor where the shadows are.

That was all from memory, and I know that makes me sad beyond belief, but it's my favourite song from the book. Sam sings it in the Midgewater Marshes.

Our flights are booked, but feel free to head over there and meet up with the geordie posse (although one of us is a scouser, Wal's brother I'm not sure about and the rest of us are middle class)

And since you have more money than us, you can pay for the drinks for the two weeks. Indeed.

I have a history with these books, which I'd now like ot tell...

I first read LOTR:FOTR when I was around 14, having borrowed it from the school library. I had finished it within the two weeks allowed, then followed it up by borrowing Two Towers. I read that, returned it, then things got ugly.

They didn't have ROTK.

Step forward 5 years, when I'm living in Canada, working in a hotel. I'm earning tons of money, and I'm fond of the local bookstore. I take home the trilogy, in a nice little set.

I read the lot over a month or two.

Now I'm re-reading them again, to refresh my memory before the ROTK movie.

One question though, am I the only one who skips the songs...?

*checks* £2000 odd in the bank, fancy a bearded companion? I could explain LotR for you without all that tiresome reading business. I'd need a translator though, I don't speak Geordie.
