Hi,

I have done several speedtests since midday today and I have not got over 2.6mb/s.

My last results a minute ago from bt speed tester were:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 13789 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1152 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 11000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1586 kbps

My current router stats are:

IP 11000k
Data Rate: 13790 1153
Noise M 12 5
Ooutput Power 125 203
Att 37 14

I appreciate ALT kicks in sometimes, but this looks like a fault.

Are there any server issues currently?

Not really sure what Dragonlance meant :S

But anyway, we do try and keep things open and certainly try and tell you as much as possible. I know nothing of throttling going on myself, as I haven't heard. This doesn't mean it is not true however.

Every company in the world will advertise the maximum speed for the service, that's advertising.

I did alert you all to this... thinks, jet lag kicking in now, ... back in June:-(

It was "poo-pooed" at the time...but some of you are now beginning to receive the same...oh well, 'tis life and jet lag :-)

Thanks Warhunt - must be nice to have a 'half day' ;¬)

Not at all - that's fine.

It did look as if 'something' might have changed recently - but things don't seem very consistent.

Just tried a speedtest with my node at 92% and ALT showing as on and nearly got my IP Profile which is good to see - better than earlier today.

On other forums some people are saying that throttling has been introduced on some types of traffic (e.g. p2p).

That's not a issue for me - as you know I'm Freeola's NUMBER ONE FAN! But I also like openness etc. so I know what to expect.

Previously seeing up to 8Mb broadband ads was bad enough, and now seeing up to 24Mb ads starts to really hurt!

I understand how your ACTUAL speed is mostly down to the physics of your line (length/attenuation) which is a tough enough hurdle to accept - so when lack of capacity knocks you down even more... :¬(

Please try to keep the information flowing and (as you know!) I'll do the same.

Just off now (10 minutes ago >_<), and not had time for this fully.

What I have had time to find out though is the changes I mentioned last time have been implemented. It should have improved things.

We constantly pass our customers views on to the wholesalers however, so all I can really say is please keep posting your views. We will escalate them as a problem our side, and hopefully manage to get something done.

Sorry if that's not the greatest answer.

Hi Warhunt, thanks for that.

No I haven't got any 'black marks'.

Last Friday I noticed that the ALT was firmly on (node around 94%) but I was still getting my full IP Profile.
So for a day or so it looked as if things had changed for the better and only the faster lines/higher bandwidth users may have been slowed down. Which seems the right sort of thing to do...

But this week if the ALT is on (as it has been a lot) then my connection is put on a 'go slow'.

Line info below:

Number of days marked as a high bandwidth user

You have been marked as a high bandwidth user on 0 day(s).
If this number is 5 or more you will be affected by the high bandwidth user ALT settings.

Last date marked as a high bandwidth user
08 October 2009, 14:06:40
Never

ALT status for your connection
08 October 2009, 14:06:40
Active and increasing

I understand. It can get very frustrating. The bottom line is it's difficult for me to get information in this respect as the plans are not always open to us.

The latest news I gave was as much as I know presently. I am going to try and chase down a bit of info myself without going through the Systems team and see what I can find for you.

This one particular node does seem a bit problematic. Do you know if you are regarded as a heavy user or not?

Hi Warhunt (I know you wanted me to chat about football!),

Any news on this yet?

My node Faraday IPSC has been jammed on 90%+ most of the week during the day :¬(

Earlier in the week I lost my PPP session and when I reconnected I found the node was running at 101% !?!

My line's not that good, so I really need my full IP Profile to get the most out of it - so running out of capacity starts to hurt...

Thanks in advance.

Hi Warhunt,
Please post here when you have some details.

The ALT has been on Faraday from 11ish and it knocks off around a 3rd of my throughput (not as bad as yesterday when it dropped to 7xxkbps).

In general ISPs are often busy during the evening peak - but you expect to get your full IP Profile during the day.

Thanks again.

No problem Hmmm.... glad to know someone is appreciating it :D

I have got this info second hand, so what I know I have said so far. Think IPSC are also included but not 100%.

And as far as additional capacity goes, I think it is more the case that they have changed the way they do things rather than increase. The term that was used was "changed the way they are policing accounts", so hopefully where they just "nuke" people down at them moment will be reconsidered to be more fair.

Whether this will affect heavy users, or whether they have indeed increased capacity I can not say 100% i'm afraid.

Sorry it seems a bit inconclusive, but I am trying for more.

Hi Warhunt - that sounds promising :¬)
Hopefully you are also referring to IPSC and not only WBC (21CN) connections? Are you saying additional capacity is being made available this month?

Faraday IPSC (my node) seems to hit 90% usage around 11am each morning - and then puts me on a 'go slow'.

Thanks for the update.
