Anyway, what I have left with me are my memories. Hell, when I first got it back in 2001 with the 4 games bundle, I was so excited. Jet Set Radio Future, Halo, Sega Gt and Splinter Cell were just so new back then. And when the months proceeded, so did the Xbox in terms of large quantites of quality software. Knights - jeez, everytime I play that just makes me feel so nostalgic. Beyond Good and Evil - a multi format game, but a superb one nothenless.
But come 2004, everything started to get a little generic for me. Where were these once obsecure and innovative games the console derived in? Otogi? Panzer Dragoon? Ninja Gaiden? Shenmue 2? No, the Xbox had hit the mainstream, completely outselling the Gamecube in most regions - it was the hype of Halo 2 that I felt started to tarnish the console's 'hardcore' gaming reputation. The releases of Grand Theft Auto also worked wonders for console sale-wise, but the Xbox started to become 'cool' and mainstream.
After Halo 2, the charm of the console was no longer there. I picked up Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Jade Empire and KOTOR 2 that year, and I had to force myself to play it. The novelty of Xbox Live just wore thin and the console just started to depress me, only leaving Outrun 2 being the only game worthy of my time. I'm a total Nintendo fan at heart, and I really try not to be biased, but the Xbox doesn't really have that 'wow' factor anymore. The Gamecube? It's still got loads of titles I want to buy - just recently bought Baten Kaitos, and its excellent.
It's sad. I wanted to continue loving the Xbox, and even considering a 360, but those days are long gone. I'm left with all my retro consoles (look at my profile for the list ;P), my DS and Gamecube. Come on Ninty. Show them how it's done with the Revolution.

HA HA HA HA HA.
I'm glad to see you have a grasp of network infrastructure and how little importance the actual end nodes play in the course of running an MMORPG ;-).
Most of the power of each node (i.e. console/PC) is still spent rendering the world for the player. An update in processor or graphics performance will not iron out network bottlenecks at the server end when a single server is trying to handle up to 3000 individual players. It could open up the possibility of doing away with servers and each node doing it's own processing, but that gives even more bottlenecking and bandwidth issues for all concerned.
Once the whole of the internet supports multicasting, MMORPGs may become more successful in what they achieve, but until then, things are as good as thye are going to be for a while.

Like I said, that's a pointless thingto saysince the 360 isn'r even out yet. You don't know whether you'd prefer it or not.

Other games are building up their character development elements too. Lockdown is having an online career mode where you earn upgrades and things over time.
The lines between genres are going to get even more blurred next generation.

Oh really? Im sure they said at E3 during the 360 conference that we would be playing with PC gamers. I think it'd be even more of a mistake to play alongside PS2 users seeing as the PS3 will be coming out shortly and their are so many more users on the PC game.
And if True Fantasy is actually released, then that might be the game the makes me buy the console then!

It's too early to say.
The 360 isn't here, so this really is pointless.
True Fantasy is rumoured to have been ressurrected for 360.
As far as consoles handling mmorpg's you just have to imagine a bigger more complicated PSO with more players. That won't be hard considering the upcoming technology leap.

No I didn't know that. I did know that the Huxley people were thinking about doing that, which I think would be a mistake.
It'll probably work well with FF though.

We'll be able to play alongside PS2 gamers on Final Fantasy. But then, who the heck actually wants to play Final Fantasy?
