I play games on my Radeon 8500 either on 1280x1024 with no FSAA or Anistropy or in 1024x768 with 2xFSAA & 2xAnistropy

However some older games like UT get even nicer looking, cos it is smooth in 1280 with 4xFSAA & 4xAnistropy!

Yep they don't do as good with it even the FX struggles with it in anything over 1280x, but i would neva go over 1280 for now im too used to 1024 and i would turn everything up to high without FSAA and anistropy.

But they always bring performance hits..........

It is the image quality that is important with FSAA and Anistropy

I don't know that much but i think those benchmarks are pants... who would turn on FSAA and Anistropy to play in fps when they can play with more than that without it..
even i play with around 55-60 sometimes on a geforce 2 although it drops.

By "the NVidia one" I mean the reference design, supplied by nVidia to magazines, sites etc. to be reviewed, and it is the nVidia reference cooling design that is 70dB

heres a link if you don't believe me, and I wouldn't trust the chaintech rating, as gainward (I think) claim their FX is only 7dB

Er, what? The FX's cooling is some of the best I've ever seen. Taking cold air from the outside, sending it on a roundtrip via the GOU and ramsinks via heatpipe technology then expelling it outside the case? It's genius...
