Goldeneye was a classic.

One thing which it would do better than MGS is multiplayer. I mean, it's hard to be stealthy split screen, right?

There's an entire mode where the object is not to get spotted. It's good fun and quite a challenge.

LOADS of games have stealth/plan/tactical thinking nowadays.

Ghost Recon 2 was superb at it - despite it being more actiony, co-op in Live was sublime, simply cos you had to plan.

Or kill Creepy. Still.

Goldeneye was mint - taking cover from the enemy on 00 Agent was essential.

On the highest setting against infinite enemies? Takes a fair bit of planning and then of course there's shaving the seconds off the missions to unlock cheats, weapons and secrets which takes planning.

None the less, there was a lot of it. How long can you honestly say you sat there playing Goldeneye and planned the way you moved through the level? Wasn't it mostly, run here, shoot here, grab this, take this over here and so on and so forth?

1) Not all of Goldeneye worked like that. It wasn't Quake.

2) Thief 3 does all you've mentioned much better.

Infact Ghost Recon does it better too.

yeah! Goldeneye was brilliant, but again its just a walk in, shoot the baddies, maybe pick something up or plant a bomb or two, and then be on yuor merry way.

Metal Gear Solid will actually make you think about what you're doing.

-Recon
-Planning
-Execution

Whether your playing MGS or SC, these are the three main steps you will need to follow to play the game effectivly. Find out where your enemies are and watch their patrol routes/behaviour. Plan an effective way around them. Do it. I find that more "immersive" than something like goldeneye. "Get here - kill all who stand in your way".
