Heres what you do people
Get yourself a Golden Saint, and create an enchantment for Bound Longsword.
Hey presto, instant and constant Daedra longsword, let the smiteing commence.
If you're not good with Longswords choose a different weapon.
Restore health.
Most items will only give you one or two points of this, but health which automatically restores fairly quickly over time is incredibly useful.
Resotre fatigue
You only need to restore about two points of fatigue per second as a constant effect in order to never worry about getting tired from running or fighting again.
Water breathing
Not essential, but very useful anyway.
Levitation
This is one you'll want to take off and put on every now and then, as required. No worry about running out of mana or item charge, just fly as far as you want whenever you want
Fortify attribute
Now this is where things get really powerful. Any of the attributes can be useful... but try enchanting an equisite amulet with fortify strength on constant effect - you'll be able to get over thirty points worth out of it with no hassle. Put the same enchantment on the rest of your clothing and you'll be as hard as nails, and able to carry more than you ever dreamt possible. When enchanting items with a fortify attribute constant effect, take the ranged option - eg, go for 1 to 6 points instead of a standard 3 points. Every time you put it on it will randomely generate the number again, so you'd just keep doing it until you got 5 or 6. Cunneing, eh?
Fortify skill
As with the above, this can be extremely useful. Try fortifying your armour or block skill, and you'll find yourself virtually impervious to attacks.
There are a few other useful ones, it all depends on your style of play. Beware though, as constant enchantment item creation is VERY expensive - ove 110k to fully enchant an exquisite amulet, and at least 20k for most other useful enchantments.
As to how you can work around these costs a little, that would be a spoiler....
My Nightblade character I started at the beginning of the week is now level 24, with a full set of glass armour, fortifying around 30 points of strength in total. I'm aiming for level 74 by the end of the Xmas hols :)

What type of "constant effect" item enchantment would you suggest I create?

No I haven't. Sounds intriguing.... :-)
Have you found Azura's Star yet?
My main tip for Morrowind players is to learn all about enchaments. Learn how to capture creatues in soul gems, and how to enchant items, be it through an enchanter or by yourself. Some enchantments can be very expensive, but well worth it. For only about 1k you can make a healing amulet to restore health. For a little more you can make yourself something to temporarily boost your personality, excellent for when you need to bribe/persuade people.
Once you get seriously rich, you can think about more powerful items. How about a ring which will open level 100 locks? Or an amulet which will grant you 100% chameleon for ten seconds or so? Both absolute musts for the 'Ultimate Thief'.
