Olympics 2008 thread...
Full Olympics Medal Table from the BBC.

GB's roll of honour (again from the BBC).

I've been quite impressed with the opening ceremony - I watched most of it live this afternoon and I'm watching the highlights as I type this.

I hope 'we' can pull off something as respectable in 2012!!!

The BBC say 4bn people will be watching!
I was surprised to see Sara Brightman had got in there singing the Olympics anthem (good for album sales!).

I did a Google and some Chinese sites say she is from the USA! :¬(

Let's hope it's a good one - it's certainly started rather well...

Congratulations to aqua man Michael Phelps. Another gold, another record. That's 8 golds hes one at the Beijing Olympics. He now has a total of 14 golds and I wouldnt be surprised if he won a whole lot more in London.

Cool, I go to sleep with us at 7g / 3s / 7b and now we're at 10g / 4s / 7b :D Now we're third on the table and have got more golds than we did in Athens. We need 2 more to beat Sydney and theres no way we can beat the number of golds we got in Atlanta.

Bolt was certainly impressive - it will be good to see him in the 200m where he might beat Michael Johnson's 12 year old record.

Paula didn't do so well in the marathon - but at least she kept going this time, rather than pull out because she wasn't going to win... Another GB girl (can't remember her name at the mo.) took a fall near the start and went on to complete with nasty grazing and a possible cracked rib! She must be pretty tough...

I was expecting more posts about Usain Bolt. Go check it out on the BBC site. He got a new record (and Jamaica's first gold/medal) in the 100m sprint despite a bad start AND celebrating before he'd even crossed the line. He definitely deserves the nickname "Lightning Bolt".

yes we're doing very well. 9 medals so far. 4 of them gold from my last count (maybe 5 just a few minuates ago). We're leaving the opposition dead in the cycling and apparently the other nations are starting to hate us.

Thats fine. Its like being america:

"How does it feel that we've raped you, the world, of any chance of winning? how does it feel to suck and die in front of your superiors?"

Yay, nice one Adlington. She our Phelps, anyone know if she's got any more events coming up?

In Athens 2004 we got...

Gold - 9
Silver - 9
Bronze - 12

Total - 30

At the moment we have...

Gold - 4
Silver - 2
Bronze - 3

Total - 9

Are we on course to beat our Athens score?

What about the women of volleyball? They seemed reasonable compared to the most femail atheletes.

But anyway, GB didn't do too badly and we're set for some medals in the weekend. If we win medals ievery event, it will boost morale quite high.

But we really need to improve our performance in every other discipline.

BMX the new event should prove worthwhile.
