Olympics 2008 thread...
Full Olympics Medal Table from the BBC.

GB's roll of honour (again from the BBC).

I've been quite impressed with the opening ceremony - I watched most of it live this afternoon and I'm watching the highlights as I type this.

I hope 'we' can pull off something as respectable in 2012!!!

The BBC say 4bn people will be watching!
I was surprised to see Sara Brightman had got in there singing the Olympics anthem (good for album sales!).

I did a Google and some Chinese sites say she is from the USA! :¬(

Let's hope it's a good one - it's certainly started rather well...

Very impressive opening ceremony. I think our's won't quite match it... I just have this image of a huge stadium completely silent in shock as Boris drives around in a big red bus...

but there was something like 600 or something of them? Something tells me that they have maybe at least 3 people for each event.

Not surprised they won a gold already. Britain, still haven't won anything, but its still early days.

Any guesses as to how many medals they'll win?

Actually thats an awesome EGAD challenge, how many medals will the uk win. In a tie breaker some other guessing game or a 30 word statement as to how britain could improve their tally or why they messed up at beijing.

It looked that way as all of the Chinese team were present at the introducing the teams part of the opening ceremony. Britain had about half their team there - they made comments about the other half being elsewhere and in preparation. I'd expect it was a similar story for the USA etc

I watched it online virtually from start to finish at work. It was going oh so well until they decided to send the guy who would light the couldron was to fly up and do something.

It was at this point that i got immensely annoyed at how they butchered the opening ceremony and stormed home.

China has quite a lot of people in the games this year and frankly i wouldn't be surprised if they won the most events.
