"Resident Evil"

The more I see about this game, the more I want it. The graphics, the bosses (particularly the shark), the atmosphere all seem to add up to a must buy game, but I'm still not sure.

You guys have played it, so what are the good parts? I've read reviews, but a little persuasion about the fun factor, etc would be nice. Is it worth buying?

They can run down stairs!

And trust me, they don't just rattle doors, eventually they'll get them open and follow you.

Its Resident Evil, you either love it or hate it. I love it, one of the best games I've played in a long time, and while it isn't as scary as games like Silent Hill or System Shock 2, it still has a creepy atmosphere.

Crimson Heads rattle doors at specific points in the game. They can't follow you through doors, nor can the run down stairs or cope with corners.

Crimson heads can open doors.

And it isscary knowing you need to get back to a part of the mansion that is crawling with zombies, and you only have one handgun magazine left.

But it's not scary running away from things. Especially when you know that they can't go through doors.

Well this Resi game is the first taster I've ever had of Resident Evil and I have to say that I'm very impressed. The game is intensely atmospheric and you can't stop playing, the game feels really precious to you (my game is so precious that I'm on my 15th save and I'm only just reached the snake!) Although it's not terrifying, the first time you meet a Crimson-Head, or something crashes through a window is pretty nerve-wrangling. On subsequent goes it's not really scary.
The puzzlies seem taxing at first but when you've cracked them its pertty satisfying. They don't hand you everything on a plate, just enough so that a minute's thought will have you seeing the goal.

As a newcomer to the series I can say that the plot is very intriguing, if a little predictable. However as far as videogames go its almost up there with Shadowman, the undisputed horror game King.

Resident Evil is great, and the whole point of it is that you can't go around blasting everything in sight. It's one of the things that makes it scary. Resident Evil is no mindless blasting game.

I don't like this game.
It's not scary (but then again, nothing is scary after the horror that is Ring)
And once you're not scared anymore, you realise how rubbish the game is. Ther's nothing to kill.
I played for an hour and I killed one bee.
One stinking Bee. where's the fun in that?
Especially since I have a grenade launcher.
