"Resident Evil"

The more I see about this game, the more I want it. The graphics, the bosses (particularly the shark), the atmosphere all seem to add up to a must buy game, but I'm still not sure.

You guys have played it, so what are the good parts? I've read reviews, but a little persuasion about the fun factor, etc would be nice. Is it worth buying?

The giant plant in the residence took me ages with Chris. I was sure I was meant to be doing stuff with the chemicals, but he kept going "I don't know much about chemicals, better not touch these" while I was left thinking "I don't bloody care what you don't know, the formulae are scrawled on the wall you idiot!"...

Then once I met the medic woman and she went back to the chemical room I thought I could go talk to her and she'd tell me about the chemicals or you'd play as her to mix them or something, but no luck...

So eventually I just went and shot the plant a few times and I found out you could kill it like that... Jeebus. But I was pleased when I finally got to play with chemicals when I did it as Jill :D

Well it is a staement of my enjoyment.

Err......that's unusual. Anyone else done this at all?

Well my first game was 7 hours something on medium, if you want to compare, although I'm pretty much a veteran of the series (since '96).

It all depends on how good you are at games in general, how forward planning you are, how quickly you work out puzzles (for instance if you work out that something needs to be put somewhere then you would take it with you, whereas someone else might need to run back for it and waste time) etc. But most people's times I've heard of have been worse than 8 hours.

Well, first time I won the thing was on easy with Chris and it took something like 17 hours... But in my defence I think Jill is easier (less back tracking due to her having 8 slots not 6) and I was probably being overly cautious with saves...

But then I won Jill on medium in about 7 hours which I didn't think was too bad. I can't be bothered with playing through it all again at the moment though... But I do want to try and get some of the cheats...

I completed it with Jill last night on easy, took me 8hrs 11mins, seeing as I'm practically a Resi newbie and it was my first time though, is that good or bad?
