"The results of the largest survey of gamers this year has revealed that Xbox is the top console of choice this Christmas.
Over 12,000 US gamers were asked, "What console do you plan to buy in the coming year?" and 39 percent answered Xbox! 27 percent answered PlayStation 2, and 17 percent plan to pick up a GameCube.
The study also showed that game demos are the most influence over game purchase decisions. When asked "Which of these items highly influence your game purchase decisions?" nearly 8 out of 10 respondents (78%) ranked game demos the number 1 factor, far ahead of the number 2 response: game reviews (47%). Both television commercials (35%) and magazine ads (31%) trailed furthest behind as drivers."
Not bad eh?

This is the point I'm trying to get across, and no-one seems to have the common sense to get their head around it. I'm not arguing about what the Xbox can or can't do, I'm saying that we've had to wait far too long for some decent games after launch!
garbe says that if they'd launched with too many good games, people wouldn't have been able to buy them all. But all they've done is delay the same problem until November/December, when all the 'good' games are due. They should have made sure they had one or two every month or so from launch - not half a year later! Xbox gaming has been pretty much stagnant!
And I'm not ignoring your MGS comments - I have read and digested them, though I don't necessarily agree that there's anything there that can't be done on the PS2. However, the constant discussion of games is detracting from what I'm trying to get across as my main point.
OXM- "Did you add any graphical improvements to the Xbox version of the game?"
Kojima- "Yes, The Xbox version will look a little better than the PS2 version, we've be able to use bump maping in the places we wanted to use it originally. Some things on Xbox will look different, the Night Vision and infa red for example. Also, I'm revealing ot OXM that the game will use the xbox's intrenal clock, so if your playing at night the VR stage will be at night"
There was lots more to the artice, thats just a snippet. garbe123 was right in saying the Xbox version will be better. After all, you can't argue, Mr Kojima said it himself!
Wookie, if you tend to by PS2 magazines, read PS2 webites etc, then PS2 game will naturaly seam more apealing becuase you know more about them. garbe123 is just saying if you resherch a little more into the Xbox line up, there will be plenty to interest you.
Probably... :P
The PS2 is sitting back all rosey because its been out for a lot longer and although it hasn't had anymore big titles out than the X-Box and GC over the summer, its easier to hide that thanks to the back catalogue of games already on the shelves.
When it comes to the PS2 launch, the games for the first 6 months were pretty poor but it was a sell out because people flocked to the name Sony Playstation. It was the "in" console (and really still is) to own, so people were swarming to pre-order it.
Timesplitters was pony, Tekken Tag was a rush job just to get a Tekken game out, Ridge Racer 5 was a forgettable experience, Fifa relies on its name to sell and wasn't anything particularly great and Dynasty Warriors 2 wasn't really anything to crow about either (although I'll add that this was the only launch game for the PS2 that I didn't mind spending some time on).
For 6 months it was just basically cack pouring out until finally GT3 arrived and since then some real quality games have been arriving for the console.
Sony also had the added bonus of not having any real competition around. Most people sneered at the Dreamcast (which ironically was the better console of the two at the time with the games it had available) and the N64 was really dying out.
Now the X-Box has arrived, but although Microsoft are a well known company, its not for games. Its basically the new guy in town and people are unsure as to wether they should take a chance with it.
Of course with this comes a lot of attention to the games available on X-Box and because theres other competition out there, if it has a quiet spell people say its because its crap.
The same goes for the pricing. Microsoft haven't produced a console before so for their first attempt they slapped on a price tag they saw as fair (no doubt seeing that most consoles seem to go for that price area at launch nowadays). Unfortunatly Nintendo bring out their console a lot cheaper and of course with its age, Sony can lower the price of its PS2 to make it more attractive.
Microsoft counter this by lowering the price. Afterall, with plenty of people already crowing about the "crap games" available, keeping the console at £300 won't do them any favours.
Now they've lowered it again to keep ahead of their competition (in terms of value for money before anyone twists that). No doubt Microsoft have a lot of faith in the upcoming titles and its online plans to make up the cash lost from the console sale and in my opinion, they are doing very well with the titles they've managed to get for the X-Box so far.
As its been said though, the summer is a quiet time of year so publishers are holding back their games until the Autumn/Winter period where they will sell more.
But because of the pressure coming from Sony, people expect loads of games straight away and ironically, the X-Box probably has more decent titles than the PS2 did in its first 6 months.
Of course whats good and whats not is always going to be a matter of opinion but most will at least submit that certain titles are big despite them not liking it.
People basically build faith in a company and they don't mind waiting so much because they know that the quality titles will come. Look at the Gamecube - it hasn't got a massive variety right now either and doesn't really have any more decent titles than the X-Box.
But people are willing to wait because they know Nintendo will deliver what they want. The same goes for the PS2 at its launch.
But because Microsoft are a new entry, they're under pressure to perform and the quiet summer period really hasn't helped.
Its amazing just how many top titles the X-Box has crammed into the next 3 - 4 months. I'm sure about a quarter to half of these titles could have been out by now if publishers released them when the games were ready.
So for me and other X-Box owners, we'll have gone from wanting 1 or 2 games a month, to suddenly wanting like 10 a month.
I don't blame Microsoft for the recent lack of games, it's the publishers who are to blame: they don't want to release there good games until the more profitable autumn/winter/Christmas period.
The same thing has happened with the GameCube, and the same thing happened with the PS2.

Okay I'm here now, so you can say you were wrong and apologize etc.
> You are saying that I aviod that it is down to opinion yet you then go
> onto say that the console must be good due to sales.
No, your 'opinion' is that you don't like PS2. That's perfectly okay. But to say that PS2 is over-hyped rubbish that only sells because the buyers are stupid and/or were duped by Sony is not only insulting, it is absolutely wrong.
Similarly, it is my opinion that Xbox does not currently have enough outstanding titles to warrant buying it. Now that is just my opinion, but it also coincides with the cold hard facts - i.e. Xbox has not sold well at all since launch. So clearly I am not the only person who believes as I do - otherwise, it would be flying off the shelves.
The games launched in the run up to Xmas maywell change that. I hope for mysake it does, because Microsoft's latest price cut has greatly reduced what I will get for my 2nd-hand Xbox if I decide to sell it in January. So I am currently felling royally shafted by Microsoft. Why? Here...
1. I bought a machine for £300 which I believed would have a steady flow of quality games over the following months.
2. Four weeks later, they slash the price by £100.
3. They offer a small range of crap games (the only decent ones were titles people would have bought with the machine) and a controller (which I assume most people bought anyway) as 'compensation' for their early customers.
4. When I consider the sale of the Xbox if quality games are not forthcoming, they slash the price still further, reducing the amount I can recoup by selling 2nd-hand.
So while I do not dislike the Xbox itself as such, I am left - not for the first time - cursing Microsoft's dubious marketing strategies and apparent complete disregard for the customers they are trying to make loyal.

I've told you enough times in the past!
> The Getaway has been rumoured to be coming to the PC next year
It's an in-house Sony-developed game, so it's unlikely - unless they sell the rights, which would be an unusual move for Sony to make.

So why buy another? It's more of the same, only better.
> the repetitive hack and slash bored me to death!
All games are repetitive, but some hide it better than others. Halo, for instance - or any FPS game... left, right, back, forward, shoot...
> The Thing is out on Xbox as well and as we know the Xbox gets best

Does it? Max Payne is practically identical to the PS2 version. Wreckless, though a poor game, is improved on PS2. Where MS haven't paid for other versions to be crippled (The Matrix), multi-platform games are identical. Prettier graphics do not make a game better, and are not a reason to choose one version over another.
> Chase on the Xbox is a strong challenger to Stuntman according to

I haven't heard of it until now, but from the title, it doesn't sound similar - still, I'll look it up. But getting that instead still doesn't give you the experience of Stuntman. It's like me saying to you "Halo's just another FPS - I'll get Medal of Honour on the PC instead" - it's similar, but it's not the same.
> I am coming to the end of the line when it comes to patience with you
Ha! That's rich coming from you.
> I am seriously trying to help you out
Well, it doesn't come across that way, but maybe it's just me. Oh wait - it's not just me, is it?!
> I can't do anything right in your eyes and I am sick of trying to help
> you out and gettiing nothing in terms of positive feed-back!
Er, yeah... whatever. I've told you exactly why I'm peeved at MS now, so you should have a better understanding of why I'm so vocal about what I perceive to be one big c***-up byb MS.
> I think it is about time you moved on from my first post in this forum

I did, but you always post the same things! I'm just surprised there was no list of forthcoming Xbox titles this time.
> grow up Wookie and meet me half way on this one!
Oh my aching sides.
I don't dislike you, garbe - though it probably seems like I do. I just find it incredibly frustrating discussing these issues with you because I feel like a scratched record.
Let's just agree to try and steer clear of replying to each others posts - or at least, instead of repeating the same discussions over and over, just respond with a 'knowing wink' - ;-) - it'll save us both a lot of typing!

After all, the Xbox doesn't have the fastest processoer just for the fun of it :) Also the graphics card is twice as powerful as the GameCube and this is where the little extras come in! I have an NVIDIA graphics chip for my PC and it is superb! The Xbox runs of one of the latest NVIDIA chips and this works to a great advantage!
