"The results of the largest survey of gamers this year has revealed that Xbox is the top console of choice this Christmas.

Over 12,000 US gamers were asked, "What console do you plan to buy in the coming year?" and 39 percent answered Xbox! 27 percent answered PlayStation 2, and 17 percent plan to pick up a GameCube.

The study also showed that game demos are the most influence over game purchase decisions. When asked "Which of these items highly influence your game purchase decisions?" nearly 8 out of 10 respondents (78%) ranked game demos the number 1 factor, far ahead of the number 2 response: game reviews (47%). Both television commercials (35%) and magazine ads (31%) trailed furthest behind as drivers."

Depends where you look. :-)

Most X-box games are a few quid more.

Thats barely any difference you say, well it's the same with the graphic quality.

Game prices on all 3 formats may be similar in the shops, but PS2/GameCube games are generally £5 cheaper on the net.

Well I ain't gonna buy one because multi-format games look more 'polished' either.

Thats not the point I was trying to make. I meant multiplatform games that appear on all 3 consoles. :-)

But who cares if the games aren't up to scratch? Personally, while they're good, I don't enjoy any X-box game half as much as any of my GC games, and I'm certainly not going to buy X-box games I like over GC games I love, even if the graphics were 50,000 times better!

As for sound, I'd rather play any of my GC games with no sound than play Halo with full surround sound, simply because I get more fun out of them. And thats wat it's all about, fun.

Yeah but its not just the sound. Out of the 3 consoles, the X-Box tends to to end up with the best results graphically too. Of course this doesn't affect gameplay, but its nice to have that extra polished look when your paying the same price. :-)

On the topic of surround sound, I think it doesn't matter at all. As long as I've got a TV pumping out decent sound, I don't care. Really, I don't see the point in spending £150.00 on a sound system when it's all about the gameplay.

Don't forget though, Acclaim are working for three extra weeks on the GameCube version as a sort of loyalty bonus so you can bet it'll be as good as the X-Box version.
