I bought an Offical Nintendo magazine the other day and on the front it looked like the little Nintendo disc, so I thought I could play the demo disc on my GC. So imagine my surprise when I realised it was dvd disc lucky for me I had PS2 to play it on.

My point being didn't Nintendo say "they don't need fancy capabilities like dvd" funny that isn't it because without my PS2 I would not have been able to play it.

This is all pathetic! Surely the issue is whether or not Nintendo and third party developers can create decent quality games on their 1.5gb ODs.

And the proof that they can? Well Ocarina of Time is a decent N64 game. Sure, it's outdated now, but only because the N64 couldn't have processed anything much better in terms of graphics and sounds. The gameplay itself is brilliant.

So why am I talking about this big N64 adventure? Well, according to NOM, a GameCube OD can store up to 48 copies of Ocarina of Time on one disc!

So what if some games take up more space? The Playstation and Playstation 2 have games which span over more than one disc, so surely it wont hurt you lazy buggers too much to change discs once in a while!

And the DVD capabilities that GameCube lacks? It's a games console. Could the NES and Super NES play audio or video cassette tapes? No. Did people judge them because they couldn't? No. So why are a few idiots judging a GAMES CONSOLE because it doesn't have DVD capabilities?

DVD players are soon to become the standard in peoples homes replacing VHS, so it wont be too long before nearly everyone can afford a DVD player and recorder anyway!

Is that going to be the PS3 and X-box 2's new features? Recordable DVD drives? What a way to boost the console's price eh?

Did you get the PC thrown in with the dvd-rom as this is the only way it would be cheaper.

No, and neither will the DVD player and GC together when they've been out as long as the PS2 has.

Why don't you sell both of these things and get the Q console instead then? Why do you even have them if you don't use them?

Re: I have a DVD player on my PC.

I have also got a DVD player on my PC. I never ever use it for movies - why struggle with a monitor which is smaller than my tv and it's only 4:3.

I also have the TV out function on the PC which i never use, because the quality is not so good and it screws up the 16:9 wide presentations.

DVD player (new) (£150) + GC (new) (£150) = £300.

Didn't a new PS2 cost £300 as well?

Most gamers will at least have one DVD player somewhere, even if it's on their PC. So it's only logical to include a DVD with the mag, if they can't use proper demo's.

It's better than nothing!

The GC uses smaller disks so the console can be smaller, and piracy is stopped dead in it's tracks. Pretty good idea by nintendo to be honest. Sure, it would be nice having normal size DVD's in it, but that would widen the doors for piracy again.

You can't have everything!
