Quite often, actually!

Thankfully I'm not that sad (yet!) but I do quite often load them up when I have the game on but want to take a break. It particularly interesting if you've had a close race, or spun out and lost ground and still come back to take the win. I have one in particular where I won by just two hundredths of a second after some particularly nifty driving - that's one I've watched over and over.
People enjoy watching exciting replays - otherwise why would all the Police Stop and crash videos sell stacks of copies?
> Metropolis Street Racer wasn't any less of a game for having no replays.
Maybe not, but they've put them into PGR - the 'sequel' on the Xbox. So there's obviously a feeling that the majority of the gaming public wants them.

As many of Sony's electronic gadgets use memory stick (I myself have a Sony digital camcorder and digital camera which take them) I'd imagine they sell many more memory sticks than PS2 memory cards, so they would be cheaper.

There are two types of Memory Stick though. Blue ones (which are without the MagicGate technology) which are currently $89.95 in the US, and white ones (with MagicGate technology) which are more expensive at $109.95. PS2 memory cards incorporate the MagicGate technology, so are more expensive.
I do agree that they could be cheaper - I never said that they couldn't be. So maybe they are a rip-off - but then by definition, as GC cards are half the price for one sixteenth of the memory, they are a bigger rip-off!

I'm glad you're happy with the price, as I suspect you'll be buying cards at a ratio of about 3 to 1.
But when you consider the Xbox HD has 50,000+ blocks, we're all getting screwed!

Arrr I wanna clear the air. Don't want you to think I'm just some annoying degensive fan type of person.
I'll admit that some people might like to save replays, even tho I personally find them annoying as I want to get on with the game instead of it wasting time loading the replay straight after you've finished.
And I'll admit that the Gamecube's mem cards are quite small if that's what you want to use your mem card for. Presonally I'm not gonna be using my mem card to save data such as that, so I think I'll cope for quite a while.
After looking at the file sizes of the saves on my PS2 (only actually got my 2nd n 3rd games today), I see that most are quite small and you will actually get quite a few more saves onto a PS2 mem card. But didn't PS2 mem cards cost £30 when they came out. Buy 2 GC ones for that much and you'll probably be able to save the data from almost if not as many games. (Well not if you want to save those 'evil' replays)!
So i'm sorry if I sounded a little rash and harsh, but there's my true feelings on the subject. You were right in some respects, but if you ignore all the replay type stuff and just refer to the games content, i.e. what level your up to them I think that both cards fair about the same, in respect to their cost and size!
:)
> As I said earlier, I have 22 GT3 replays on the same card as my
> Madden saves.
Any how many times do you actually watch them? Do you sit back and think "Nothings on telly, I know! I'll watch one of my GT3 replays!"
Its ridiculous that the status of replays has got so high that people actually complain when they aren't in the game. Metropolis Street Racer wasn't any less of a game for having no replays.
Anyway back to the GC memory card situation, they may not be as physically big as a PS2's but if they have superior compression and games that take up less space then whats the problem?
And to now quote Bonus:
>At £27 for an 8meg Memory Stick, the price isn't half bad too considering >the actual cost of CF cards and Sony memory sticks.
If you compare it to a Sony Memory stick it is a rip off. I can get an official Sony Memory stick for £28 that hold 32 mb. I own a 128mb one that cost me £90, and you can now get them for between £65 - £70. Thats the equivalent of 16 PS2 Cards. Now do the maths and tell me if the PS2 cards still seem good value.
All memory cards are overpriced. From Cooky's post it looks as though I will happily make do with one GC Memory card, and so am happy at the price. At that price I am also happy to buy another card should I need it. I won't be happy however, to shell out £30 or so when my PS2's card is full, as thats nearly the price of a game.

Well, okay - but the info is also on the page I gave earlier.

Well, me for one! :-)

No, it was from an e-mail from Nintendo actually!

Replays are just so pointless tho! WOW GT3's replys look sooo good! well they do the first time you watch em, but really how often do people bother to look at them after that?
:)

That'll be from the same page I gave in my earlier post - not like I was trying to hide anything! :-)

All detailed in an earlier post, my friend.

I do! As I said earlier, I have 22 GT3 replays on the same card as my Madden saves. If no-one cares, why do developers include the option? If they took out the replays from SSX Tricky, you'd probably be saying "Gamecube can do that! Why did they take it out?!" :-)
: )

I just bought Shawn Palmer Snowboarding and the save on the is almost 400KB!!!
:(

Well here's some info direct from Nintendo :-
Pikmin: 19 Blocks
Luigi's Mansion: 3 Blocks
Wave Race: Blue Storm: 12 Blocks
Super Smash Bros. Melee: 11 Blocks (plus more for saved pictures).
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3: 6 Blocks (plus more for replays and custom characters).
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader: 3 Blocks
NHL Hitz: 20-02: 8 Blocks
Madden NFL 2002: Full Memory Card
Going by those figs then your still gonna be able to store quite a bit. If your gonna moan about Madden games then they always take up full mem cards! They did on the N64 and they did on the PS1. Dunno about the PS2 tho!
Also, how many people save replays? Who cares about that? If you want to waste your mem card with stuff like that, then you do that. Don't complain when it fills your mem card.
No mem card ever really stores that much. I've got sommin' like 5 on my Playstation, and I've got 4 on my Dreamcast.
There are pain in the buttox!
Live with it!
:)
