Given that the new operating system from Microsoft seems to be quite a popular topic at the moment, it's probably worth sharing any knowledge we have as we all install and "road test".

So, tell us if you've been successful, what you think of it, or alternatively if you've encountered problems both installing and following the install.

If you have come across any fixes or workarounds, tell us about those too.

Using pb's link and selecting the Upgrade this PC, download to install took about an hour. However, W10 didn't recognise the GTX 970 ... that's now sorted, but Windows Defender refuses to turn-on!!

Cosmetically, unhappy about the inability to change 'window' colours ... the white is a bit too much!

So, four installs later, no issues to speak of. I've done a laptop from Windows 7 via the upgrade app, a tablet from 8.1 via the app, a desktop from 8.1 via the app and a desktop from 8.1 upgrade by downloading the Windows 10 installer and running it from my hard drive.

All four installed with no problem.

Since install, the only oddity I've come across is an email telling me I've reached my device limit for installing apps from the store.

The limit, apparently, is 10 devices, I'm nowhere near that, so I've ignored the email and all my devices are behaving normally, all are able to access and use apps from the store. It's apparently an issue that is quite common, the email is sent in error, so if you get one, ignore it.

Easiest install so far?

Windows 8.1 to 10 via the upgrade app. I started it as I left work, came in the following morning to an upgraded and fully configured Windows 10 machine.

Seems like the best way to avoid errors is to download to USB first from here instead of installing directly from the update and it works perfectly from a 4GB USB stick.

This also means that;
You don't need to wait for Microsoft to say you can update
You can do several computers with one download
