Last week the XBox overtook the Cube in sales in GB. Now there are (only) 3000 more XBoxes around than Cubes. This is due to the excellent offer the XBox has (2 games for free).

Nintendo have to cut prices and/0r add a free killer game, like they did with the Mario/Goldeneye N64s.

They have to do it before Christmas, or else they'll take a pounding.

I really don't see why X-Box is doing so well. X-Box is certainly a bargain at current prices and I'd go pick one up except for the fact that outside of Halo there are really no games that light my fire - at least not for full price. Looking at upcoming lists I find a similarly barren outlook for the near future - again except for Halo 2. I have little interest in Mech games, so outside of something killer from Rare I can't see any reason to justify spending even the moderate sum asked (I already have a real DVD player). I most probably will pick one up at some point - I just can't fathom why they're selling so well NOW.

Having said that, Nintendo's business model is suited around small sales.
Nintendo will make a tidy profit from miniscule sales of 25-30 million units or so, while MS and Sony will need to sell MUCH more to make similar profit down to their huge promotional campaigns and high level marketing.

Sure, Nintendo won't get the lions share of the profits, but they'll stay healthy.

I've seen footage of Kameo.
It's looking as good as anything Rare have ever done before.
We'd all be raving about it if it was still Gamecube bound.

A bit out there. SOME of the Goldeneye team left Rare and some of Perfect Dark was done without them, not to mention the likes of Conker, Jet Force Gemini etc...

Besides, while Timesplitters 2 is a great game, it's not mind blowingly blindingly brilliant like Goldeneye was.
There was more to Rare than just a couple of talented devellopers who have probably been replaced by equally, if not more so talented devellopers.

Besides, you're only bitter because MS bought them.
Don't worry, Microsoft's attempts to break into the Games Market have reached points of desperation. The Xbox is heading for so many price cuts, you'll soon be able to pick up an Xbox along with all of Rares new games for a really cheap price! :-)

No it isn't, it's true, trust me.

With the next genereation the X-box will significantly catch up with the next Playstation, Nintendo's next console will come in last.

The generation after that it's highly likely the X-box will then be the most popular console, again, Nintendo's will come in last, by a long way this time.

By this time I wouldn't be surprised at all for Nintendo to pull out of the industry.

Since Rare split, we haven't seen them make one game on their own. The people you know Goldeneye and Perfect Dark for are long gone, and they now make Timesplitters 2. To me, Rare are just another ordinary developer.

Nah, that's a load of rubbish. Microsoft have now confirmed they will NEVER make a profit on the X-Box, and I think quality games, hardware and the loyalty and contracts with other developers that Sony and Nintendo have will destroy Microsoft's gaming antics.

Unfortunately Rare were, and still are brilliant. I recently bought an N64, never had one before and wanted to play some of the old greats, I chose 4 to start with, Banjo and Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Jet Force Gemini. They still all play well, and look okay. But they're all Rare games....

Starfox looks like being a great game for GC, but its Rare.

Take a look at the stuff on Microsoft's site, and the stuff on Rare's - this deal has been known about ages before Nintendo said anything. Rare have one game on target for 1st quarter 2003 that was supposed to be GC, yet it's suddenly Xbox only... you can't change consoles you're developing for that fast. Yet Rare have, and all of a sudden Perfect Dark 0 has more solid info released in one week than it ever did as a rumoured GC title, including the release of the first character model confirming it's an anime style game this time around.

At first I thought Nintendo were right to ditch Rare, who develop games slowly. Now I've played more Rare stuff, and seen the incoming Xbox titles, and the fact Raremay have an Xbox 2.... I think Nintendo should have looked at this long term, it may be a bad mistake to have let Rare go.

MS's price cuts are pretty desperate but they seem to be working.

I just hope that the Xbox keeps failing so when I go to pick one up around Spring time, I'll be able to get one dirt cheap! :-D

Anyway, a few extra Xbox units is no big deal.
MS are only slightly ahead in the US too and the Gamecube is WAY ahead in Japan.

Besides, Nintendo's cost efficient plan means they can make a strong profit out of relatively minor sales.
Microsoft have thrown so much money at that black box that they NEED a huge user-base to get it back.

I can't understand the recent sudden rush to buy an XBox?! I know its an excellent deal, but I am not prepared to spend £160 non-existent pounds on a console that in my opinion dosen't offer naything I really want! I don't miss Rare that much!
