The "Sony Games" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
I am referring to these very forum. In the recent months it became flooded with pointless spam and one word replies. Things totally got outof hand in the past 4 weeks or so. All decent topics were flushed down the list and they were replaced by things like "Can you wait for MGS2?". Maybe some of you regard these forums as a place to chat liek you would chat with your mates in school. Some use text language, things like brb gr8 and wot? Why that laziness?
I have been especially concerned with the fact that people who spend long times writing their topics simply do not get the credit they deserve. This is due to the relative lack of feedback from many of you. Once a person sees a long post, they think to themselves-"Nah I cant be bothered to read all that" abd start spamming.
Some of us even think that every long post is a GAD attempt and therefore does not reflect on the writer's feelings and emotions.
As Pro Evo said in the Longest Thread, many of people who are writing long, worth-a-read topics cannot be credited for anything just because seconds after a post is written it is beaten by hordes of MGS2 and GTA3 posts.
I do not want to be a big-head but to be honest in the last few weeks this forum only had 3-4 people post good posts that were actually interesting to read-Pro Evo, SSX Pro, Wookiee Monster and me. Now I am not trying to say my or anyone elses posts are sheer class, but I dont think anyone can argue that there has been hardly no people who posted long thought-provoking posts.
So could we just stop this spam and try and get this forum back ot its feet. AFter all this is one of the most-visited places on SR...And what kind of example are we setting here???
Anyway, I have spoken.....
The idea about people having to read rules before joining is nice in theory, but I, and most other people, just scroll al the way down things like Yahoo and Ebay's terms and conditions because they are boring !
Back to the discussion.
nh, you mentioned about getting all the regulars together to agree on this, unfortunately this is impossible to put into practise but a good idea although I can see it ending up as a slagging match if anyone said the wrong thing. Almost happened yesterday with my comment and then
Grapo2000 having a go.
You mention about the rules page, don't get me wrong here but I take it your older than 25 and therefore have a bit of common sense? But, and this is where again I could end up upsetting more people, the vast majority of JATs just lately have been young and they just want to get on with
posting.....they're not interested in rules, thats for ADULTS!
I know alot of regulars on this site are probably younger than 25, but they've been here for a long time, some are notables and therefore well respected but with the added bonus of knowing how this forum works and how to make best use of it.....they're the ones who have helped develop this
place into what it is today......a bloody good forum. They also know not to abuse it or start irrelevant post/topics in forums where they don't belong, JATs just haven't got the foggiest and just want to start topics for the fun of it, not even thinking about the consequenses.
I didn't take part in the discussion about the PS2 chat forum, not because I didn't want to, just felt that there were enough people already arguing the case that one more wouldn't of made any difference and any points that I felt I could make were already put down by others. Might be
useful if we could bring this subject back up with SR.
Maybe there should be a chat forum for each different forum, or maybe thats going to far....I dunno maybe we just need to talk to SR and see what they feel.
The big problem with getting change is that there are not enough of us that will want it, look through this post and there are maybe 5 or 6 that have contributed.
To do something would need to get all the regulars etc to post at the same time. SR looking at this will see that there are only a few people talking about it at the moment.
Looking at what Jive said earlier, when I first came into talk I did this radical thing first which was that I read the rules..... Quite simple really and when I first posted I headed up my post with something like "I'm sorry if youv'e been asked this before but I am new here and would just like to know ..............."
Maybe when people register - the registration process should include a box which needs to be completed to confirm that you have read the rules - I have been to other sites where you do actually have to go to a certain page before the registratgion process can be completed. I know you couldn't ensure they have read them but if you have to go to thye page some people would which might help.
Also as most of the new spam topics are just chat, If SR won't set up a PS chat forum for it then only enable JAT's to post new topics in FOG chat for 7 / 10 days. They can be allowed to join in other topics I would have thought, if they were not then they would just go and the forum would shrink away over time with no new members.
Well considering how early it is and my brain isnt fully in gear yet that will have to do for now.
For instance, go and take a look at the topic titled
******IMPORTANT NOTICE*******
Necessary, replies necessary, I think NOT!
Yet again another spammed topic, of which I can't even be bothered to go into FOG to have a look at and do you know what the worst thing about that is......the topic could be really really well written and I'll miss out because of peoples complete waste of posts.
Cheers for that and whoever wrote the post if it was good, sorry I didn't read it but blame all the others, if it was utter bollards then I'm glad I didn't bother.
Night all and lets carry this on tomorrow.
Yeah, perhaps your right, I do hope all the rubbish does stop but I'm sorry to say I bet it doesn't.
I'm still willing to give the ideas a bash though, if I don't get caught up with work tomorrow there should be no problem.
I still think there are some more ideas out there but there have certainly been some good ideas stuck down here today. Hopefully there will be enough ideas to take to SR tomorrow.
oh and Grapo2000, sorry but there are others on here that are a) much worse than me b) much worse than you.
Oh while I'm here, I note that I seem to have upset a few people.
I dont think so, maybe told a few home truths, or maybe told the forum what it really needed to hear.
Either way, the usually drabble has been cut.
Oh while I'm here, I note that I seem to have upset a few people.
G®åpô²ºº², seems as though a raw nerve has been touched here. Yeah I'll admit that I've put in some one liners a couple of times on the LONGEST THREAD but not to the extent of some other people that I will not name here.
Wookiee, *eek, runs out of forum* ;D
Pro Evo & HHH (good naming convention there nh) yeah it would be a good idea to get together and discuss what we may or may not be able to put to SR, I think the idea of the break off to (bridge) chat might work but as I really don't spend much time in the FOG to use both I can't really comment.
Hopefully we'll be able to carry on the discussion here and come up with some good ideas that HHH can goto SR with.
Charge!!! :D
-----------------------------------------------------------
On another note, i did a post a few weeks back about getting a split in the forum, asking SR for a chat and discussion Sony forum. There was some support, but not as much as whats been said here.
maybe if we can come up with an idea with lots of support, they will listen.
