Now I really didnt want to touch this subject again, but seriously this is becoming a joke.

I am referring to these very forum. In the recent months it became flooded with pointless spam and one word replies. Things totally got outof hand in the past 4 weeks or so. All decent topics were flushed down the list and they were replaced by things like "Can you wait for MGS2?". Maybe some of you regard these forums as a place to chat liek you would chat with your mates in school. Some use text language, things like brb gr8 and wot? Why that laziness?

I have been especially concerned with the fact that people who spend long times writing their topics simply do not get the credit they deserve. This is due to the relative lack of feedback from many of you. Once a person sees a long post, they think to themselves-"Nah I cant be bothered to read all that" abd start spamming.

Some of us even think that every long post is a GAD attempt and therefore does not reflect on the writer's feelings and emotions.

As Pro Evo said in the Longest Thread, many of people who are writing long, worth-a-read topics cannot be credited for anything just because seconds after a post is written it is beaten by hordes of MGS2 and GTA3 posts.

I do not want to be a big-head but to be honest in the last few weeks this forum only had 3-4 people post good posts that were actually interesting to read-Pro Evo, SSX Pro, Wookiee Monster and me. Now I am not trying to say my or anyone elses posts are sheer class, but I dont think anyone can argue that there has been hardly no people who posted long thought-provoking posts.

So could we just stop this spam and try and get this forum back ot its feet. AFter all this is one of the most-visited places on SR...And what kind of example are we setting here???

Anyway, I have spoken.....

I read this post this morning and I've also read another couple of posts (which have been very good, Pro Evo). I
started to put a reply together, got interrupted and only just come back on. I've just spent the last 30 mins re
reading the posts and tried to work out a reply to this post (without spamming) hopefully this makes sense.

I will admit that I've talked to people on here in a couple of posts, wouldn't say I've spammed to the extent of others in the PS2 LONGEST THREAD, but do try and put more than one word in a reply.

There have been some good suggestions and I'm gonna chuck my 5 eggs worth in!

First up, I think SR need to put some restrictions on JATs! Every stupid (yeah you only need to look at new topics today to know what I'm mean) topic that is started in this forum is started by a JAT. Maybe the JAT should be
restricted to only being able to post in topics that are current. Therefore until they are a Newbie and have
actually been browsing and posting in topics to get the feel of the forum then they can start putting up new topics.

Hopefully by that time they will know what the **** is going on with these forums and it's not a place to spam.

Secondly, I think there are certain people here (they know who they are) who have spammed this place to ****. I'm
not going to mention any names but you've only got to look at the top 100 postes all time and last 30 days to know
who they are (I could end up upsetting some people here but those who are spamming, tough). I've mentioned to
people who I've seen do it that if your going to have a conversation in the LONGEST THREAD at least not copy from
SR's website and post it or just say one word in the conversation, try and string two words or more together.

Perhaps there should be some kind of sin bin, if your caught spamming then your sin binned for maybe a couple of
days, if you do it again, your binned for longer?

If you continue to do it then your out......I know thats gonna be hard to administer, maybe sorting out this whole
bloody mess will be.....I'm not in charge, never will be so in truth I really do not know what the solution is.

Anyway, 5 eggs, own opinions, if I've upset anyone maybe it's for the good in the long run.

It has been done before, if i remember rightly nothing ever really came of it as non of the new people then took any real notice, and the fact that there was nothing to discuss in it meant that it just disapeared so no one would see it.

Maybe SR should write some rules, and put them up on the main home page for these discussion forums, then at least the posters know there is some authority behind them.

Maybe the problem is that there are no official rules, or moderators as such. I don't mean just to stop people posting offensie e.t.c stuff but to help out those new to these forums, the trouble is that, as other have said, regulars could get fed up of the constant rubbish and leave.

About a year and a half ago I was amember on Big Network, it wasan online chat thing where you played games against each other and chatted at the same time. Steadily it got more popular and more andmore people came, but no one tried to moderate it so a slow trickle of people began to leave....and the site went after six months. obviously this wont happen here, but there are a hell of a lot of "dead" forums out on the internet and I'd hate to see that hapen here !

Why doesnt someone start a topic with unofficial rules for the forum ? I mean obviously theres got to be some agreement about what these would include and they cant be enforced, but at least new people would, possibly, have an idea about what makes the forum better ?

There was a fair bit of pressure put on SR from some of the posters from in here, even the likes of wookiee agread, but SR still reckoned there was not a great lot going for the change and so rejected it.

Not being a weekend user I have just come across this topic and I agree with what you are saying. It isn't only the topics that seem to get ignored.

Iv'e only be posting here for 3 or 4 weeks and it gets so damn frustrating when I read a really good post and then add what I consider to be a good, sometimes long reply and then watch the topic dissapear down and out within an hour or so of the evening spammers arriving.

It's like your topic on disabled gaming - damn good topic and very thought provoking but how many of the spam kiddies bothered to even read past the heading let alone join in any kind of discussion on the topic.

But ..... What can be done ???

The only way to cut it down is as PE tried a few weeks ago and get SR to introduce a PS Chat forum - All the little questions could then go in there. Will it happen ? only if SR get enough pressure to do something ............
